A first version of the manual for entering stamps in the stamp section was provided by the administrators and posted today on the input page.
Many thanks to the administrators who contributed to it! Sometimes difficult choices had to be made and not everyone always viewed certain matters in the same way. We had already noticed this inevitably when compiling the handbook for the comic book section.
In any case, it is very nice that there is now a starting point that we can gradually expand further!
To the critical followers of the stamp section, try to provide constructive comments if you miss something. That will probably still be added. This is therefore a first step in establishing and laying down all the rules in detail.
And if you yourself would like to see something different at a certain point, remember that it is impossible for everyone to agree with everything and look at everything you can agree with. There were also lively discussions between the administrators and sometimes difficult decisions were required. In any case, it is courageous and important that those decisions are all made.

Finally, hopefully clarity in the stamp world!
A small point of criticism is the confusion that it says that it is version 2. I am a programmer and if there is only a small change, such as the formatting, then at most you are talking about version 1.5 or version 1.0 and then for the administrators it is 0.5 (or something). seemed like a nice explanation, although there are still questions to ask. But of course you can ask your questions here.
And a pity that it is an addition, but that makes it nice and short (the handbook for the comics has 42 pages!). Also a missed opportunity to use images as extra explanation or is that too difficult?
Let's hope that more is entered correctly without discussions!
Druktechnisch:
A tab is a strip of paper that is attached to a stamp and printed together with that stamp. The tab is usually connected to the stamp (and at the same time separated from that stamp) by a perforation. A tab can be a piece of the sheet edge (e.g. NVPH Nos. 1842-1851), but also a strip of paper between rows of stamps (NVPH No. 1131 and 2172 to 2181). A special shape of the tab is an intermediate piece, which therefore belongs to two stamps. This was common with the stamps of the GDR and is called there “Zierfeld” (example Michel 2562-2564). The tab can be left, right, above or below the stamp. Especially Israel issues stamps of the latter group.Content:
The tab has something to do with what is on the accompanying stamp. Pieces of sheet edge with printing data, such as plate numbers, are not called a tab (but simply “sheet edge”) .The tab can contain both text and an image (or both). This text is usually an explanation and the image is often an extension of what is on the stamp. In thematic philately, the texts or images on tabs are very useful.Collect technically:
A tab without a seal has no collective value. A stamp that is issued with a tab has a (much) lower value without that tab than with that tab.Problem case:
Self-adhesive stamps are also issued with a tab, but these stamps are “punched”. The connection between stamp and tab is then very vulnerable with soaked stamps. Yet it also applies here that stamp and tab in a collection must be a unit. Difficult for the collectors of used Switzerland where the “Priority” tab breaks off very easily (Michel 2027 and 2029).I hope to have answered your question with this information.
I think many collectors are happy with this explanation and assume that the position taken will be changed.
The relevant position on tabs / attachments also seems clear to me, and should be entered separately per variant tab, I think.
I think that a large part of the collectors also use the tabs / appendices, so it is important to include them in the catalog.

@ johan1614, tab seals can be entered (see handbook). Combinations with the sheet edge alone not (with 1 exception). This was chosen to prevent excessive proliferation in the catalog and I can imagine that.

@Rene, I cannot imagine anything about the proliferation, after all there are already more than 2,000,000 stamps for sale, then the few that are added more don't matter much anymore.
if I look at the sheets in the Netherlands in which stamps are processed with tabs, then I think it is not surprising that they are also included separately in CW.
I am talking about "Dutch Olympic Committee" or Open air museum sheet.
the stamps of these are also listed separately in the CW catalog, but not the series.
so apparently the loose stamps come from the sheets.
It does surprise me that last week I had imported the stamps Trees in spring / summer / autumn and winter 2007 from the sheets, and that they were removed again in no time.
and all the more because those also stamps with a tab from a sheet.
You call this proliferation or it is measured with 2 sizes.

@Rene,
@Rene,
I have read the Handbook and can find myself in everything except Stamp-swap, Johan and Aartingen (and many others who have not yet responded) point 10.1 stamps with tab.
If you enter this line do you understand that 80% of the collectors can no longer enter their collection completely? that cannot be the intention ??? this line will cost you a lot of collectors, a clincher, a neck turner.
You have the same stamp with tab, without tab, tab on the left and lab on the right and so 'we' collect them too, they cannot enter all under the same with annotation can / does not work, please think again, too many collectors will have to drop out because of this (nonsensical) rule , probe anyway
With that proliferation it's not too bad (ghost stories)
Rene
Rene
I am glad that there is now a manual and today I have made many improvements again.
But it is a pity that it took so long. I did a lot of unnecessary work and later on I had to adjust things again. That took a lot of unnecessary time.
But we shouldn't look back. So sand over it.
What is the "tab" ". I save this too and I think it is a shame that this position is taken. Make CW as broad as possible so that the collectors and that also gives a positive impulse for CW.
This is what I would like to consider. Extra description for (notes) does not work.
I support Sjoerd's story.
Micho Rooseboom, a collector
Another stone has been laid with the manual, now the next stone with the tabs

First of all, congratulations on the newborn. It is yet another milestone in the maturation of the catalog.
I have absolutely no knowledge of stamps, but I was once involved in setting up these kinds of manuals. background the following observations.
1. Introduction:
The handbook is intended as a bible. At least it should be and that is why it is not useful in terms of quality control and management if reference is made to elsewhere in such a document (the instructions in the input fields). Everything there is to 'rules' should be in the manual. I strongly advocate including all instructions in the manual and take that as a starting point. It also prevents the confusion that arises when the manual and the instruction in the input fields contradict each other (see dimensions). It is now unclear which of the two is decisive in that case.
2. Title:
- NATO, GDR etcetera are of course certainly abbreviations. I think this could be better formulated differently to avoid ambiguity. Abbreviations of names are allowed, others are not.
- I would replace "van Rijn, Rembrandt" with "Rijn, Rembrandt van"
- If "Painter Rembrandt" is not allowed, it is very illogical to say "Queen Juliana" allow. That should simply be "Juliana Lippe Biesterfeld" with "Prince / Head of State" or something similar as the theme. That would also be more in line with the "Persons Theme" field.
4. Country / Territory:
I am missing the instructions on how to handle things like postage stamps issued in occupied territory. More generally, when does a stamp and why fall under which area. These are precisely the things that you have to make agreements about and then incorporate into input instructions
12. Geographical themes:
A theme says something about what can be seen on the stamp. So that has nothing to do with where that seal comes from. It does not seem logical to me not to be allowed to enter a country as a theme if that happens to be the country of issue.
16. Designer:
The phrase "here too" in "Again, it does not contain the names of children who have made a drawing" is to say the least confusing because as far as I can tell those children are nowhere else in the document or input field instruction.
17. Printer:
What is missing here is instruction HOW to enter the printer. Do you bring NV, BV with you? The location? The country? You have to draw up rules for this to prevent one and the same printer from being entered a hundred times with small differences in the spelling.
25. Dimensions:
The manual and the instructions for the input field contradict each other. That is a problem as long as the manual is seen as a 'supplement' to those instructions.

Heldere feedback, pegag!
Clear feedback, pegag! And from an experienced Catawiki handbook maker and therefore very welcome. We will work on it. Thank you very much!
Just to be sure about the tabs: it is not the case that tabs cannot be included. Limits are now only set on the combinations in which we include them. To me, that discussion resembles a discussion that also played with the comic book section regarding the inclusion of variants with stickers, stamps, etc. There are also all kinds of combinations possible and they are also collected, but from the point of view of management (s )ability we have chosen it not to include them anyway. But we will certainly talk about the substantive feedback on the tabs for a while.

@aartinge
@aartinge
I'll chime in here for a moment. I just see the stamps with trees in the catalog, so I assume they were removed because they were already there. Indeed, now all the different stamps with sheet edge as a tab and the possible combinations that can be made with them are not included as a separate item. So as an example of what it looks like now, the issue trees 2007: loose stamps, series (se-tenant) and sheet + then the fdc, folder, etc. Series because there are 5 series in a sheet.
At Open Air Museum (10 different stamps in sheet) we include: stamps loose and sheet or block. Series is actually double with the sheet, because there is only 1 series in the sheet. But here I can imagine including the series because someone who has the 10 stamps loose can add them in one go.

@postmaster, the stamps with trees are in it, and so is the sheet.
but what is not included are the stamps from the sheetlet, because these stamps are with tabs, and they are not included as a series.
And of course there will be many stamps of an item, but it cannot be that there is actually a lot missing in terms of issue.
Whatever you say about the Open Air Museum (10 different stamps in sheet) we include: stamps loose and sheet or block.
So also the stamps from the sheet!,
my trees were placed per series from a sheet, so a total of 4 series. because these were not there, and that can simply happen because they have been issued.
but they have been removed.
also as stamps with a tab from a sheet that are pasted on the fdc, which also occur. are not on either.
4x10 stamps with a tab, that is proliferation, but they have been issued, and they should just be on it, just like the 10 stamps of the Open Air Museum, which are also on it and which should also be part of a series.
and if you then choose what may and may not be on it, then you measure with 2 sizes.
do you know what I see as proliferation 2567155 and 2567149 put blocks of 4 in CW.
you can simply copy 1 stamp from these blocks as it was also issued.
and you offer the block in your own shop.
In the stamp section a "kind" has been included, which is also called "stamp with tab".
In my opinion, all stamps with tabs that have been issued should come in here, so as with the trees series 4x10 so 40 different tabs.
These are saved by enough people in this way, and how can you keep a list of values, or buy this stamp in a shop if you don't know if, and if so , which tab is attached to it?
- 2.571 berichten

@johan
@johan
and how can you maintain a list of values, or buy this stamp in a shop if you don't know if and if so which tab is attached to it?
the stamps with tab are standard stamps from a sheet or they may also be issued separately,
so you can see which tab is attached to it., each stamp has its own tab.
So there is nothing strange about the stamps issued.
In that sense, it cannot normally happen that a stamp would suddenly have a different tab than issued is, and so with the stamps from a sheet.
There is a difference, because like the tree series, it has a different tab on each stamp.
So 10x the same stamp, but 10x different tab.
I think that all 10 of these should be in the catalog under the "kind" "seal with tab".
Then anyone can find them and add them to search list, collection, etc.

@johan. pay attention to what you write.
if you don't know if, and if so, which tab is attached to it?
because like the tree series, it has a different tab on each stamp. you can see this by the sheet where these stamps come out.
I also write:
"so you can see which tab is attached to it., each stamp has its own tab."
in short, it are in fact all different stamps by means of another tab.
@johan1614 en aartinge
Jullie moeten echt leren tellen!
You really need to learn to count! If you do not include the corner tabs, there are fourteen tabs connected with a seal. Could you please exclude the collectors who want to enter each corner stamp with the side tab or the top or bottom tab, or maybe even each with two tabs?
- 2.571 berichten
- 3 oktober 2012 10:11
@tapir, this has nothing to do with counting, the conversation was about the stamps with tabs and the 10 stamps that I had placed, and which were later removed.
johan came with 10 pieces, and the postmaster also came with 10 pieces from a sheet.
that there could be more, that is not an issue now, because the conversation is all about the sheet, and there will even be wel18.
but as the rest of CW looks like, we better concentrate on just the stamps with tab as most 10 are already there from a sheet.
and the is about the fact that 2 sizes are not measured to allow one stamp with a tab from a sheet, and the other not.
Here is a very last message from Stamp-swap regarding TAB stamps.
Even an official statement from the KNBF has failed to convince the management and its administrators.
I have Just the number of TAB stamps, which for me are the only correct stamps, counted from the years 2007 to 2011. In I arrived at a total of 246 TAB stamps. I have all these in MNH and canceled version in my books. If anyone wants to see samples and enjoy them, send me your email address. I would be happy to make a scan for you.
Of course I had to buy those Tab stamps, because I am retired and I don't get that much mail now. However, I was only able to buy a few stamps from Catawiki. The vast majority therefore comes from other sites. Average purchase price € 0.25 each. You can calculate how much commission Catawiki lost from just one collector.
I wish you lots of collecting pleasure. greetings Pieter

100 klanten = toch 307 euro
And that is what arises, because not everything may be placed while the stamps with tab are there.
246 x0.25 = 61.50x 5% = 3.07 per customer. 100 customers = 307 euros anyway
Tapir,
Tapir,
My experience is that most collectors save tabs as being 10 per sheet.
People looking at top-bottom-corner tab that's me personally not encountered yet (although they will undoubtedly be there)
The basic series of 10 should be included anyway, because as Stamp-Swamp already writes, an official body has confirmed that this 10 tab copies are.

I do not interfere with the substance of the discussion, but my hair always stands on end when someone uses the word 'official'.
The instance you mention is just as official as Catawiki official, you know. Catawiki decides independently what is or is not allowed to the catalog.
I will only mention this to avoid misunderstandings about this.

@arco, I agree with you, however, if on the one hand catawiki places 10 stamps with tabs from a sheet, as postmaster also writes:
At the Open Air Museum (10 different stamps in sheet) we include: loose stamps and sheet or block.
then it is strange that the stamps as a series from the Spring Trees 2012 sheet are not allowed to be included, and so are the summer, autumn and winter trees.
if I am allowed to release these, and then offer them for sale, then it may of course be that a complete series is torn apart.
there is a series in a sheet with a tab, and there is a sheet, and they can be placed separately.!!!
catawiki restricts this to the last 2 bold options that can be placed.
there are also series and loose stamps from a block or sheetlet on cw. (and please note that a stamp from a block is also a series if there is only 1 stamp in it)
and I have not yet noticed that it is being removed or heard that it may not be placed because this is a series from a sheet or block.
It is therefore a strange regulation or point of view and even contradictory because on the one hand series and loose stamps are normally allowed to be placed and even from blocks
and that now suddenly a series is removed from a sheet

@aartinge,
@aartinge,
To be honest, I don't quite understand your reasoning. The Open Air Museum sheet contains 10 different stamps, it makes sense to include them per stamp, right? And then the complete sheet, possibly an item with the 10 separate stamps as a series (but that series can be done away with).
The sheet of trees contains 2 different stamps (each 5x). Just because the sheet edge is different, must 10 (or 14x) the same stamp be included? It has been said before: no one prohibits collecting these things, but there are limits to what become separate catalog items.
there are also series and single stamps from a block or sheet on cw. (and note that a stamp from a block is also a series if there is only 1 stamp in it)
Correct, if these stamps are unique, or differ from the sheet stamps, they will be included separately. Series from blocks have been placed in the past, but that should indeed only be the loose seals. A seal from a block is a seal, not a series. If you come across that, please correct it.
