To begin with Lyonesse it is outrageous that data entered correctly can still be changed. This really needs to change on LD.

it is outrageous that properly entered data can still be changed. This really needs to change on LD.
Who should then determine that something has been introduced correctly? No one is infallible, not even administrators.
It is and remains a wiki. Sometimes it's not fun, but it's part of it.
Users who frequently and stubbornly continue to make incorrect changes may be blocked.

In addition to Austria, I think it also plays for Hungary (I still have to dive in). Have you seen this in other countries?

With another stamp I see that there has already been a positive review. There is still more to it, because a whole series of catalog numbers has been filled in there. With advancing insight, we don't think that's good anymore.
Anyone with an interest in and understanding of old Austria-Hungary can indulge themselves!

The request to merge the two entries for Giesecke & DeVrient has already been submitted to Postmaster. Ditto for Wertpapierdruckerei [Leipzig, Germany] (WPL) .
If someone could quickly check that the stamps hanging underneath really come from the same printing company, that would be nice. Now we can change it at once. Not anymore after merging.

Personally, I am in favor of using a script for this when it comes to large numbers, but we will have to see if that is possible (technical and programming capacity).
We currently don't have the capacity to create and run a script for this.
If you indicate exactly what needs to be done, there are probably several people who want to help you manually.

Vanaf 1948 zie ik in LD drukker "ANY Biztonsági Nyomda".
Allami Nyomda (1869-2013) [Hongarije]; alias "Staatsdrukkerij [Hongarije]
NY Biztonsági Nyomda [Hongarije]; alias "ANY Security Printing Company" & "ANY"
Akkoord?

I have now found out that "Nyomda" means printing house and "Allami Nyomda" stands for "state printing house / state printing company" in Hungarian.
Until 1869 the Hungarian stamps were printed in Vienna. Production was then taken up by the "State Printing House" in Budapest, with the first stamps being issued in 1871.
In 1993 the state printing house was privatized and in 1999 it merged with another printing house (or the state printing house took over an SZUV).
In February 2013 the name was changed to "ANY Security Printing Company" (or the Hungarian translation of it - bistonagi = safety = security).
In conclusion I would say:
Allami Nyomda (1869-2013) [Hungary]; aka "State Printing Office [Hungary]
NY Biztonsági Nyomda [Hungary]; a.k.a. "ANY Security Printing Company" & "ANY"
Agree?
The stamps that are now wrong will have to be adjusted manually by someone.

No sorry I don't know anything about the printing companies from Hungary either.
Have a look through the first stamps of Austria, those from 1850.
It says Herz with the designers, they suspect that it is good, but they are not sure, he only thought out the design, but they do not know whether he has also drawn it.
And at the Engraver is Josef Tautenhayn, who was born in 1837 and would be the Engraver for the stamps from 1850, Never.
The engraver is Hermann Karl Tautenhayn, (I also entered details once, but unfortunately changed again by someone else) born 1810 died 1885 and is the father of Josef Tautenhayn.

Opsplitsen graag.

Besides, this is completely ridiculous.
The voluntary managers do more than their best to manage things properly. Some respect is appropriate and not always commenting through unnecessary wording. Please just post substantive criticism/comments, that should also be possible, right?

Of course, because it is not intended as a criticism of people (administrators), but an illogic (in my opinion) in the catalog.

(1) Allami Nyomda (1868-2013) (Staatsdrukkerij [Hongarije], A. NY)
(2) ANY Biztonsági Nyomda (2013-) (Staatsdrukkerij [Hongarije])
National Enterprise Bank Note Company
National Bank Note Company
Correct?
At the moment there are two separate names/periods for the state printing office:
(1) Allami Nyomda (1868-2013) (State Printing House [Hungary], A. NY)
(2) ANY Biztonsági Nyomda (2013-) (State Printing House [Hungary])
Do you want (1) to be further subdivided? If you need to add another name for the period before 1999, what should it be? Mi continues in Hungarian Allami Nyomda.
Incidentally, before 1901 the German name may have been more common:
Königliche Ungarische Staatsdruckerei (ku Staatsdruckerei) (1871-1901)
Should this be added?
A large number of stamps have a wrong printing company in my opinion. I already said that in my first post about Hungary. As you indicate ANY on stamps from 1884 is not possible . I can't fix that. This is because there were several names in the list for the same printing company. One part was split (as above) and another part was lumped together. Due to lack of scripting possibilities I can't do magic. Many volunteers will be needed to make it right, because of the years they hopefully now have more handles.
Ad 1) A. NY is listed as an alias because I saw this on a sample of stamps (and the chosen abbreviation looks like Allami Nyomda). This was later merged into the new name ANY.
Penzjegynyomda Reszvenytarsasag
The list of printing houses also includes Rt. and Rtr. Looks like this was taken literally from the stamps. However, it says (usually) Pj. Rt.
Can everyone agree with my conclusion that this is an abbreviation of: Penzjegynyomda Reszvenytarsasag?
The official English name of this printing company is Hungarian Banknote Company.
National Enterprise Bank Note Company
Is this an independent printing company, or another name for the above?
National Bank Note Company
In my opinion, this is not an independent printing company, but a misspelling of "National Enterprise Bank Note Company". Correct?

can you be more specific what you mean?
In principle, I think that the name of the printing company should be stated with every stamp, as the company is called at that time (the date of issue, or rather the moment of printing). And not what that company is called in the present. I have a number of reasons for this:
I have already mentioned the first reason and that is the fact that (for example Hungary) a lot of stamps have been printed by a company that was founded/started printing more than 100 years later. That's just not possible.
Moreover, every period in the existence of a company is characterized by specific characteristics with regard to printing technique, paper use, perforation, luminescence, gum. Every merger and (the resulting) name change can lead to a changed printing process, due to a changed machine park or a changed management. It doesn't always have to be instant, but changes will take place. Certain stamp characteristics belong to a certain period and that can be represented by the name of the company. That has always helped me. It also gives the option to create a background page. Clearer and more accessible than everything at 1 company. I have made a first draft for Indonesia .
Furthermore, the printer is/was regularly mentioned on stamps. Most importers will enter the printer's name on the stamp in the LastDodo catalog and not the future name (though sometimes not the official name either). It seems to me that this could save some work.

As far as the more specific questions are concerned, I often owe you the answer. I have not yet got around to examining my Hungary collection in detail. A few answers:
Do you want (1) to be further subdivided?
LastDodo does not offer those options. So I would leave it that way. In the background page of the printing company you could discuss differences before and after the merger.
Should this be added?
At most as an alias, I think, unless it's the official name.
I can't fix that.
I get that. I think the first step should be to get an agreement. Do we mention at the printing companies the name that was used during the printing of the stamp or the current name? You know my opinion. Once a decision has been made, mention it in the handbook (and on the forum).
