Bijzonderheden
scharnierend oversluitdeksel wijd uitlopende onderkant blik 4 in bodem gestanste pootjes A rectangular casket-shaped tin with raised feet. The late eighteenth-century period costume scene on the lid shows couples walking beside a river. There is an ornate griffin design on the sides. This tin is the same shape as same shape as 'Old Times' and 'Shamrock', issued two years later in 1898, and 'Seasons' which was issued in the same year. 'Seasons', however, does not have the raised feet. The sentimental image of a couple in eighteenth-century costume is reminiscent of the scene on 'Rivulet', 1901. Ultimately such pictures of courting couples can be traced back to Watteau's 'fetes galantes' or Gainsborough's 1783 painting 'The Mall in St James's Park'. Manufactured by Huntley Boorne & Stevens using the offset litho process. info van Reading Museum
