Bijzonderheden
The Tour of Britain was a mixture of races, rally stage miles, and road sections. With rally aces like Roger Clark pitted against racing drivers such as James Hunt (who had won the previous year’s inaugural event in a Chevrolet Camaro) driving cars prepared to ‘Group I’ showroom specification, it was a unique event and caught the public imagination at the time. Both masters of their own disciplines, Clark and Marshall were nicknamed ‘Ecurie Beer-Gut’ during their epic three day long duel in the July of 1974. From the beginning they pulverised the opposition, and made it clear that they would be fighting their own private battle for victory, quite an achievement when the field included top names such as Tony Fall, James Hunt, Jody Scheckter and Gordon Spice. Both men had points to prove, Clark had led the previous year’s event in a 3-litre Capri until being forced out by ignition failure, whilst Marshall had not been giving a drive on the tour by his usual employers, Vauxhall, who thought their rally drivers would be better suited than their star saloon racer. For three days the pair put on a virtuoso display of car control, rarely separated by more than inches, sideways more often than not, but not inflicting a single scratch on either car and fighting their remaining the best of mates throughout. History records that after over a thousand miles of motoring Clark had a mere eighteen second advantage over Marshall; a truly magnificent performance by two legends of the sport. Part of 2-piece set FE1002 (VA09514 + VA09515) Limited Edition 1.200 pcs. (with certificate)
