Alderney, Andorra (Frans), Andorra (Spaans), Aruba, Azoren, België, Berlijn, Bondsrepubliek Duitsland, Curacao, Cyprus, D.D.R. Duitse Rijk, Frankrijk, Geallieerde Bezettingen, Gibraltar, Griekenland, Groot-Brittanie, Guernsey, Ierland, Italië, Jersey, Liechtenstein, Luxemburg, Madeira, Malta, Man, Monaco, Nederland, Nederlans Indië, Nederlandse Antillen, Nieuw-Guinea, Oostenrijk, Portugal, Saarland, San Marino, Spanje, VN Geneve, VN Wenen, Vaticaan, Zwitersland.
Today the long-announced change has been put on Catawiki, making it possible to change a very large part of the Collect-A-Rom stamps.
My apologies for taking so long. Behind the scenes we have been busy reading the latest versions of the Collect-A-Rom catalogs. We turned on the freeze function because we wanted to prevent changes to users from being overwritten by reading the data.
Most of the catalogs have been imported and have now been drawn up. This applies to the following countries:
Alderney, Andorra (French), Andorra (Spanish), Aruba, Azores, Belgium, Berlin, Federal Republic of Germany, Curacao, Cyprus, D.D.R. German Empire, France, Allied Occupations, Gibraltar, Greece, Great Britain, Guernsey, Ireland, Italy, Jersey, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Madeira, Malta, Man, Monaco, Netherlands, Dutch East Indies, Netherlands Antilles, New Guinea, Austria, Portugal, Saarland, San Marino, Spain, UN Geneva, UN Vienna, Vatican, Switzerland.
The most notable countries that are missing here are the Scandinavian countries, Suriname and Indonesia. We have to do a renumbering for this. They will come later.
Three comments:
The Catawiki stamp number field cannot be changed. This is an important reference for existing Collect-A-Rom
usersThe series field cannot be changed. That's because of the serial images.
The paper field cannot be changed. There is still a discussion about this in the forum. This discussion will be concluded at the upcoming management meeting and can therefore be opened.
Thank you for your patience and good luck with completing the catalog!

(catawiki nr. collect-a-rom item).
Another addition to this. If you come across a duplicate, the collect-a-rom item is always the original. So you can change the title of the other item to: doublure van ... (Catawiki nr. Collect-a-rom item).
And finally: Please do not change all descriptions to those of your 'own' catalog now. Catawiki is following its own course. Descriptions are often different to facilitate translations, for example. And copying certain elements of existing catalogs consistently is also not possible under copyright law. That is precisely why the series binding and the sequence sometimes have a slightly different character.

I just notice that no images can be added.

But even more importantly: It also determines the sequence and the linking of stamps / series / FDCs.

Hallo Postmaster

Hello Postmaster
Is it indeed the case that all work done by us, LEAK, will eventually be removed in favor of collect-a-rom ??????
I am very curious about your answer.
The problem is that it is very labor-intensive to create a coherent database in sequence from individual input. Also consider stamp / series relationship, sequence. That means endless scrolling, inserting new items, adding series and / or individual values (where series scans are often not present). It also means aligning titles (if individual values have been entered by different collectors under different names or in other languages). In short: Practically impossible and in any case very inefficient.
That is why complete databases will be created and imported for many countries. Ultimately, this works faster to arrive at a coherent and complete whole. For example, in order to be able to number properly, the database must be 'complete'. With the created dbase, serial images can also be generated automatically, and the descriptions take into account the creation of translations.
BUT ...
The big problem at the moment is that no data can be combined when merging. Because the dbas information is often missing as perforation, information would then be lost. The intention is to add up the information when deduplicating so that the information added by users remains available. It is also possible to perform a check on the created database. Ultimately, the database will then contain elements of both the imported database and the separate input. We have to wait until that is technically facilitated.
For example, the Eastern Europe database is quite ready and there are already more than 10,000 scans available for it. Not only an enormous addition - countries often triple or quadruple in terms of numbers - but also all series and most unstamped (neutral) images.
AND
anyone who enters a lot can contact me and help build these databases. It is faster than single input, and you can work better with the result. I am also looking for collectors who want to add themes to the databases.
SO
Also loose input is certainly not thrown away, but if you want to help with the database import that is even better!
erik@catawiki.nl for registrations.
Is it true that all the work that LAYS done by us
Well, if the work were really done by laymen, it would be of no use to us, but most of those who import have of course quite a bit of knowledge of stamps. It is therefore not about the fact that the information is incorrect, but mainly about the fact that the input of all those individual items does not automatically lead to a complete and consistent whole, and the road to that now takes far too long. Consider a popular country like Indonesia, a collector or dealer can do very little with that.

@ stamp-swap
@ stamp-swap
I hope Erik's explanation is clear to you. All stamps are neatly ordered and that seems a big advantage to me. Moreover, the users of an item move along with the merging of the already entered items.
I am glad that there is now a little more freedom, within the conditions set by Erik, to improve or add data.
This is not yet fully working as desired. I tried to correct a Michel number of item 652139 , which has no image.
The number is preceded by 'man' as it is an Irish stamp booklet so it should be 'ier'. I also wanted to add some information at the same time.
However, the correction/addition is not accepted because entering an image is mandatory. Unfortunately I don't have it, because that booklet is still missing in my collection.
I will ask Marco if that can be changed.
Ierlanfan: However, the enhancement / addition is not accepted because the input of an image is mandatory. Unfortunately I don't have one, because that booklet is still missing from my collection.
I had also overlooked it. That is now also possible. As a test for the example you gave, I have already adjusted the Michel number

Why changing MAN to IER is both total Kul, MAN and IER do not exist in the Michel guide and the official iso code for Ireland is IRL, the code IER was made up by a joker and anyone trying to make a workable catalog on this website beautiful with this legacy
It has been talked about before, but songs published by another catalog like CATAWIKI cannot simply be embellished with self-made numbers and additions.
That is forgery of the Michel catalog and most country codes are self-made OOS for Austria, an American really does not understand it is AT or AUT
For anyone using the Catawiki Excel sheet, this is a complete nightmare and can manually remove all self-made prefixes like MAN, IER and OOS when I get such a list from Catawiki.
Can we please just agree with them all to just enter the original Michel number ....... without any strange make-up country codes in front.
That will save me and probably many other collectors hours and hours of time with hand straightening the Excel sheet that you turn out from Catawiki.
The omission of the totally unnecessary and self-made country codes will also benefit the professionalism of the Website

That's plain language, Sinbad. Made your point!
The country codes for the catalog number are automatically included in the collect-a-rom entry, but have no further function. Maybe Erik can do something about it that these are no longer coming ...
@Sinbad
Kul,
vervalsing
verzonnen door een grappenmaker
complete nachtmerrie
@Sinbad
Kul,
forgery
made up by a joker
complete nightmare
It is a pity that you are always so blatantly negative.
The country codes were generated at the time for a product intended for the Dutch market. Since few will be familiar with the ISO codes, a (Dutch) abbreviation of the country is not such a bad alternative. Everyone understands, even without the ISO table at hand.
They have a function in that by means of the country code seals of a certain country can be looked up directly in the database. In the search function, first enter 789 and then oos 789, then you understand it better and then you see that you are also a bit too short. It saves at least 1 step in the selection.
The disadvantage of a "bare" Michel number is that it is not a unique number, because number 789 can be from any country. and in my opinion a number should always be unique. It has happened to me regularly that I have collected the wrong stamps for a customer because these two countries had combined on a missing list and had forgotten to write a different country name halfway through the list. And I often get questions about or about Michel numbers where collectors in their enthusiasm forget to indicate which country they are from.
Many make the mistake of comparing what Catawiki does against what traditional catalogs do. Here the question is justified as to whether the Michel number system WITHOUT country codes is still as it should be in 2011.
It is - certainly with the internationalization - a good idea to replace them with an ISO code in due course, but that is a bit more complicated than it seems. There are many historic postal areas for which simply no ISO code is paved. Well Sinbad then you will not be able to completely avoid "weird fabrication codes". I assume that you now also take on the task of supplying a comprehensive list of ISO codes. I am very curious!
In addition, the site will technically have to continue to recognize the old number because this occurs in the CAR collection files.
Zie:
http://www.iso.org/iso/country_codes/iso_3166_code_lists/english_country_names_and_code_elements.htm
Some brief responses, because the substantive discussion on this and the resulting decisions cannot be resolved in a few moments, hours or days:
1) The isocode for Ireland is IE and not IRL
See:
http://www.iso.org/iso/country_codes/iso_3166_code_lists/english_country_names_and_code_elements.htm
2) As Erik says, these codes do not apply to postal areas that no longer exist or postal areas that still exist, but separate from the countries to which they belong.
In the event that isocodes were chosen for the countries, in my opinion it would be wise to use abbreviations of at least three letters for the other postal areas to avoid possible interferences.
3) Current catalog number search function: can only be used by numbers. No distinction is made between the catalogs or the nature of the stamps (postage, air, service stamps ...)
4) However it is resolved, it must be taken into account that Catawiki will become more and more international. Efficient cataloging that can be understood by everyone is a "must" !!!
@Tapir
@Tapir
See, a forum post can also be constructive!
The discussion about the ISO is not new, but it is exactly what has been discussed before and what Tapit writes:
because the substantive discussion on this and the resulting decisions cannot be resolved in moments, hours or days
Current catalog number search function: can only be used by numbers. No distinction is made between the catalogs or the nature of the stamps (postage, air, service stamps ...)
How strange because the 'fantasy letters' (freely adapted from Sinbad) do stand for the number precisely to distinguish between postage and dioentseeks. Will ask why searching for this does not work.
a few years ago in the NVPH it was decided at my suggestion to give postage stamps a P, airmail an LP for the number. I think that the postage stamps with us now also have a P. )
This is a discussion in itself, because strictly speaking NVPH LP 9 (e36 cent photomontage) is not an airmail stamp at all ..
There are still a lot of hurdles to overcome, and believe me: cataloging is putting as much systematic into something as possible and then discovering that you cannot escape a large number of exceptions to the well-thought-out rules ... and that the optimal system is often is at odds with practicality.
Cataloging is above all about making compromises ......
The country codes for the catalog number are automatically included in the collect-a-rom entry, but have no further function. Maybe Erik can do something about it that these are no longer coming ...
Sorry Daan I probably incorrectly informed you about this in a different context. I think we can automatically add an ISO code in due course, so that importers can omit the code. (in that respect my answer remains the same)

The automatic addition of the 'iso' country code should indeed be added automatically. That doesn't seem like such a problem technically, right?
So now it is all about assigning the correct codes per country / area.
It also seems useful to me that letter codes for airmail, postage, his, fdc, etc. are also automatically placed before or after the catalog number.
It also seems useful to me that letter codes for airmail, postage, his, fdc, etc. are also automatically placed before or after the catalog number.
Yes, only FDC's is not useful for sub numbers.
In my opinion, the country code for the catalog number is also totally unnecessary, but because it is simply done that way with the Michel numbering, I wanted to have the correct code there.
After all, you can first select by country and then by catalog number.
The problems that Erik describes with orders cannot occur on Catawiki, so I think that is a weak argument.
The fact that it is easier to search via the number if there is a country code is also not true, because nowhere on Catawiki is a list where all country codes are listed. So you just have to know the correct letter combination.
The fact that it is easier to search via the number if there is a country code is also not true, because nowhere on Catawiki is a list where all country codes are listed. So you just have to know the correct letter combination.
That's right, regardless of whether it is the current code or the ISO code. The fact remains that it is one step less searching. Even two steps if you have to switch to another country, which often occurs by motive. In lists with 50 seals that ticks through in time In any case, that is far too cumbersome for me
Someone who works a lot with the catalog will quickly know the codes, which are even more logical for a Dutch person than the ISO - which does not mean that we have to go to the ISO codes. In any case, as a frequent user, I use it continuously in the store and for that reason alone, iuk wouldn't want to miss it!
I don't understand the fundamental objections, especially if we have the code added automatically.

Beste Erik,
Dear Erik,
I totally understand your argument why and you are right too but ... my problem is not the country codes but the scrambled / cut / modified / forged / reverse / upgraded / smudged Michel number ... there is only 1 Michel number (or Ivert, Scott etc) and it is in the Michel guide. POINT. (The entire stamp world also works with that)
If Catawiki decides to provide the Michel number, it is also normal that every further addition is not Michel (also a country code) and therefore invented / forged
Most collectors work with lists (like me) and with a catalog (in my case michel) if I want to compare or insert a printout of a catawiki excelsheet into my collection, it takes me 2 to 3 hours to manually eat / remove these fabrication codes (and that every time I have entered a country in Catawiki).
This is such a stupid job and takes so much time that I increasingly dread it, this has nothing to do with Country Codes but the fact that the Michel number is no longer correct.
A separate input field / box with Country code is a valuable addition, but leave the Michel, Ivert and Scott numbers alone.
I hope you now understand the fundamental objections
It is a pity that you are always so blatantly negative.
I think you were the oversimplified negative during the cinderella discusion
Dear Tapir
IE is the ISO2 code for Ireland, however the largest in the world (UN, governments, banks, importers, customs, carriers, airlines and manufacturers) use ISO3 codes and that is indeed IRL.
the ISO2 code has its limitations because there are too many countries, with the old stamp countries that no longer exist, ISO2 cannot function due to a lack of (logical) letter combinations
. . . if I want to compare or insert a printout of the Catawiki excelsheet into my collection, I spend 2 to 3 hours manually eating / removing these invention codes. . .
I support your objection in principle, but the problem that you now indicate can be solved by using search and replace in Excel. You can then replace all unwanted text with nothing in one go.

Beste IerlandFan,
Dear Ireland Fan,
Okay sounds interesting but where in excel can you find that?
