There has been a discussion about Types of Stamps for quite some time now.
Currently there are 51, some of which are not recognized by foreign collectors or that there may be further species to be defined internationally.
We want to make this easier for the user and to that end we are going to work with Type and Sub-Type. We are now at the stage where we can show a format so that it can be talked about. Maybe we missed something and we are also looking for a better term for "Maakwerk" + the sub-species mentioned there.
However, this does not take into account the new "Publisher" field that is to come, so perhaps the list can become a bit shorter. Suggestions for this are welcome.

You may also be able to add a booklet stamp and a personal stamp (issued by the postal service itself). Booklet stamp possibly together with combination from booklet. So for example, Booklet stamp and the combinations thereof.

The following things to consider:
The type of seal is still very messy in terms of sub-species. I would remove Bridge Pair, Reverse Print, Seal with tab, Se-tenant and Combination from booklet and place them separately, for example as combination stamps, possibly together with block/sheet. These are collectibles. Optionally, the sub-type door runner can be added. Combination from booklet is possible, with the type Booklet.

Soldier seal and Veldpost have to be removed anyway. These are types of use, comparable to jul stamps, safe stamps, newspaper stamps, etc. Veldpost is more like cancellation than postage stamp. It can either be completely removed or merged with a soldier's stamp for military use.
Specimen is not a stamp. Was never intended for mailing, is stamped by the imprint specimen and is intended to show the final design (What the final result is). I think it is somewhat comparable to blueprint and belongs to the category other.
Furthermore, the sub-type stamp has no right to exist in my opinion. It does not differ from a coil stamp or a variation such as, for example, variety: perforation. Those are just stamps. So make the type of stamp the type of stamp. What remains with that type are the sub-types Automatic Stamp, Counter Strip, Reel Stamp, and the varieties.
What I absolutely miss is the Block Stamp. In Indonesia, this almost always deviates from the standard stamps due to a different face value, a different color or a different design. In terms of image it is between the standard stamps, but again it is not shown in the series. I would place it under the type of stamp as sub-kind: Variety: Block Stamp.

In response to your comments, I have also looked at the Specimen type and most of them have been classified under the Use type = Franking. Why was this chosen at the time if they have no franking value?
Soldier Seal and Field Mail also seem like a usage type to me, but that's up to the administrators to decide.
The term Block Seal is new to me, administrators should say whether this should come under Seal as a Variety.
With Sub-type Stamp I have right, that is still a leftover from an earlier discussion about Species and Sub-species. Back then the idea was that you should also be able to simply choose the Type = Seal. Now it is the case that a Sub-type must always be selected and as a result the Type is automatically filled in.
I would also like to hear other people's opinions on your first suggestion regarding the removal of Bridge pair, Reversal print, Seal with tab, Se-tenant and Combination from booklet.

I basically said what I wanted to say. Not as a criticism, but in my pursuit of perfection. Of course, as I see it. Unfortunately, we usually talk about the things we see differently and the good things remain underexposed. I did some calculations, but I had comments on 9 of the 48 proposals. Just for the sake of convenience 9 out of 50, which is an 8.2 as a final grade. With an extra point, because it is admirable that a discussion is being opened up again. Is the final mark for the proposal in the first post a 9.2 :-). Good job again from the team I would say.

Okee Collectioneur , nog een keer. Waarom onderdelen eruit halen ?.
Okay Collectioneur , one more time. Why remove parts?. As it stands now, it's fine, isn't it? Booklet stamp and personal stamp (issued by the postal service) as an extra, and everything is okay anyway. Weird that there's no response to that? Block stamp as an extra, no problem.

Of course soldier stamps are different things than Jul stamps. But they had no franking validity for regular postal traffic (only for military traffic, stamped by the field post). Sometimes the stamps weren't even stamped, I read. And that they are worth a lot is interesting, but says nothing. An old Chinese Ming- vase is probably also worth a lot, but is not yet a stamp :-). But what matters to me is that the soldier stamp/field mail should not be regarded as a type, but as a type of use. So in the field above species. Here the usage type 'Military' already exists.

A stamp may also be added to the stamp, a booklet stamp and a personal stamp (issued by the postal service itself)
We now also do not know the type of Booklet stamp, why add it now?
Personal Seal is a Usage Type, right?
It's fine as it is right now, isn't it?
If everything was right, we wouldn't be changing it, it's mainly about making it more logical and simple for the average user.

Nice of you to ask Collectioneur . Personally, I save stamps. I think like many others. I do not collect booklet stamps or parts thereof. If I now choose stamps in the menu, I also get the booklet stamps, imperforated above, imperforated below, imperforated left and imperforated right, these do not interest me. Therefore perhaps separately as booklet stamp, possibly in combination with combination from booklet.

In my view, a personal stamp issued by a postal service is also a normal stamp. So not the personal, personal stamps. These are nice, but not worthy of being cataloged.

I myself still have a reservation about type-sub-type 'Postal Stationery'
Postal Stationery
Postcard (new)
Airmail letter (new)
Postal Stationery
Mailsheet (new)
Prepaid envelope (new)
It does not seem logical to me that a subspecies has the same name/meaning as a species. How should I see this with 'Postal Stationery' as a sub-type of the 'Postal Stationery' type? Seems logical to me as a species, not even as a subspecies.

This discussion is about the Types and Sub-Types, not about whether Personal stamps belong in the catalog or not. This discussion has already been had and will probably flare up again.
Seems logical to me as a species, not even as a subspecies.
This is partly because the Type of Postal Stationery now includes 4 new sub-types. I think it would be good to rename the Post Stationery Sub-Type, so if you (or anyone else) have any suggestions.....

Is it the intention to select only a subtype and not the main type or can you only choose the main type as well? I do not find the answer to this question anywhere.
It’s important because, if you can only choose a subtype of the type “stamp” you will be required to move all cinderella's to another place. Cinderella’s are no “postage stamps”.
If you can choose the main type "Postal stationary" there is no need to add a subtype with the same name.
Again horrible translation!

Wederom vreselijke vertaling!

I assume that the main type will be obliged and the subtype will be optional. That's because it is not always possible to enter a value in the subtype field.

It is the intention that a Sub-type (or several) is mandatory for new inputs/changes.
In addition to this: It is the intention that users get a dropdown during the input, with the Type+Sub-types grouped. So they see to which Species a Sub-species belongs and can only select a Sub-species. This automatically fills in the Type as well.
Here's a screenshot of a test (substantively irrelevant)

I asked the question above because I already suspected that the main type wouldn't be chosen.
Many (sub)types haven't (yet) a definition: A correct description is indispensable to guide the collector on the right path, otherwise there will be some extra work for the administrators to correct all the wrong choices.
And that is how, after the abolition of species a few years ago, we are going to achieve a new diversification. The saying of Bredero then applies again...

Maakwerk / 1 'Catawiki' even wijzigen naar 'Catawiki stripenvelop'.

Seal - 7 'Soldier Seal' - Seems more like a utility type to me? Doesn't make sense to me here (never found sense under 'Kind').
Seal - 8 'Fieldpost' - ditto
Booklet - what does a ' booklet ' fall under in the new species list? I think that is missing: Booklet type with Booklet subtype ?
Make work / 1 Change 'Catawiki' to 'Catawiki comic envelope'.
With the varieties I miss 'Variety: type' and 'Variety: plate error'. These are now also types, and then that information would be lost (just as before with the 'standardization' of paper and perforation types). Information should never be lost.
I am missing a new species for the existing "Other" species. I think that a subspecies 'Other' is needed in the 'Other' category.
I would add a subcategory under Other/Design: 'Proof'. Unless 'Design' also means 'Proof', but then I find 'Print' more clear.
I wanted to ask: What happens to items that now have two (or more?) types associated with them? Will this still be possible in the future: multiple species, each with a subspecies? - but that was already answered:

It does not seem logical to me that a subspecies has the same name/meaning as a species. How should I see this with 'Postal Stationery' as a sub-type of the 'Postal Stationery' type? Seems logical to me as a species, not even as a subspecies.
I think that the sub-type should be mandatory, and that for example type/sub-type "Other/Other" or "Postal Stationery/Postal Stationery" are necessary, otherwise you can never make selections on specific sub-type "Postal Stationery", but only on the main type "Postal Stationery" (where you would also see all subspecies).
In the filters you must therefore be able to filter on both 'Type' and/or 'Sub-Type'.
This 'double' sub-type could only be prevented if you could specifically select '(empty)' in the filter under 'sub-type'.

Zegel - Serie - Combinatie (incluis Blok/Velletje) - Maakwerk - Boekje - Postwaardestuk - Overig

It is the intention that a Sub-type (or several) is mandatory for new inputs/changes.
If we assume the following types:
Stamp - Series - Combination (including Block/Sheet) - Craftwork - Booklet - Postal Stationery - Other
With Series, Combination, Making, Booklet and Postal Stationery it seems to me to be no problem. You can always add a Sub-Type. All options are covered. Other options may also be added. If you add Other as a sub-type here, then everything is covered here as well. But you cannot place all house, garden and kitchen stamps as a subtype. Take e.g. #1917471 . It is not a series, combination, etc. It is clearly the 'Seal' type. But then?
It's not a vending machine stamp, it's not a counter slip, it's not a coil stamp, and it's not a variety. So something must be added to the type "Stamp" that is complementary to the existing options. The sub-type stamp does not seem to me to be the right name. But something must be added, because the sub-type must be filled in. Then I don't get much further than the sub-type 'Other' or 'Regular', and that will be the most used sub-type, I think.

'Overige postwaardestukken'. De benaming moet complementair zijn, niet overlappend.

I think that is missing: Booklet type with Booklet subtype ?
Totally agree. I overlooked this one above. Make it something like 'Regular booklet', so that everyone is forced to make a choice. The name 'Booklet' as a subspecies is not sufficient, because a booklet variant is also a booklet. It must be complementary.
I think that a subspecies 'Other' is needed in the 'Other' category.
I completely agree with the first post.
otherwise you can never make selections on specific sub-type "Postal Stationery", but only on the main type "Postal Stationery"
That depends I guess. The question is whether the sub-type optional package with Postcard, Airmail Letter, Mail Sheet and Prepaid Envelope is complete or not. If it is complete or considered complete (no other choices allowed), then adding postal stationery as a sub-type is unnecessary. You can select each sub-type separately and you will get a complete overview if you select Postal Stationery by type.
However, if there are other options as a subtype, other than the 4 mentioned, then the addition of the subtype 'Postal Stationery' is necessary. It just has to be called something else, such as 'Other postal stationery'. The designation must be complementary, not overlapping.

Just a comment on an earlier post:
In response to your comments, I have also looked at the Specimen type and most of them have been classified under the Use type = Franking. Why was this chosen at the time if they have no franking value?
Also take a look at FDC. Almost every FDC is given the usage type Frankeer. I'm afraid if you try to frank a letter with an FDC, the recipient will have to pay a lot of postage or you will get the whole thing back as undeliverable. The stamps at an FDC are already canceled and therefore have no postage value. Now do the same with booklet, ecu letter, occasion envelope, hanging package, year set, children's thank you card, etc., and so on and you will see that you can frank with everything.
Unfortunately, the Franking usage type is useless at LastDodo and worth nothing. I've converted a number of FDCs for poking to no postage value. Most have already been reset to Franking usage type. The thought will be that it has something to do with stamps and you can frank with stamps, so it will be Frankeer. Even stamps that have never been in circulation are given the predicate franking.
So the fact that the specimen says Franking under the type of use is unfortunately null and void.
