I have just offered a fairly rare item for auction (cartography) which is also in the wish list of three collectors.
Question 1: When the auction starts, will these collectors be notified?
Question 2: If not, what can I do to get in touch with these collectors?

1: If no link has been made between the catalog and the auction, these collectors will not be notified via a message. They may follow the auction.
2: You can make the link when creating a lot. That is on tab 3 in blue letters. Another option to create a link is to offer from the catalog. Then there is automatically a link.
Have the items been offered or already scheduled?
In the first case you can still retrieve them and still link them. In the second case, you must consult with the auctioneer.

On the understanding that as a seller you cannot approach the searchers yourself, because they are not known to users and CW will not provide that information if they already know it.

which is also in the search list of three collectors.
As Morits said, you cannot know who is looking for something and that is a good thing for privacy reasons! Otherwise people will be approached without wanting to do so about something they could have found through their own search function. And trading outside of CataWiki is not what CataWiki is for.
That is why the alerts were invented that, in my opinion, monitor the auction offer on keywords and the search list is for the offer at the CataWiki shops.
@Jilles
@DisneyMeentwijc
@Jilles
The offered item was linked to the same item within the catalog. Does this mean that the relevant collectors will not be notified that the item they are looking for will be auctioned?
The item is scheduled.
@DisneyMeentwijc
If you are a collector and puts an item on a wish list, then you will of course be over the moon if someone sends you a message saying that what you are looking for will be put on the market. In my view, this should be possible anonymously, so without disclosure of the identity of neither the seeking collectors, nor that of the selling.
It is more interesting for a selling collector to offer items through Catawiki than directly, outside Catawiki. Three collectors bidding against each other can only benefit the sale price.
Incidentally, the Catawiki system is not watertight because as soon as an auction has ended, the seller knows the identity of the buyer. If both are collectors of the same type of items, it is not difficult to do business outside of Catawiki. But again, this is not in the seller's interest.

@ Andre57France
The item offered was linked to the same item within the catalog. Does this mean that the collectors concerned will not be notified that the item they are looking for will be auctioned?
During the auction, collectors are made aware of the relevant auction where the item they are looking for will be auctioned.

Opinions are divided with regard to making the search lists public.
I believe that it will only become more fun for the Catawiki community and also better commercially for Catawiki as the search lists will be made public.
My suggestion to Catawiki:
Give the user the freedom, responsibility and opportunity to make the search list public. This also immediately removes the alleged privacy "argument".
If Catawiki does not want to comply with this, as an interim solution you could make all search list items public without linking to the user.
I am a collector in many areas. If the search lists become public, I can proactively search for other collectors and auction and offer more specifically. In this way, collectors also have the items in their wish list at home more quickly. It's that simple.

They are public with no link to the user.
During the auction, collectors are alerted to the relevant auction where the item they are looking for is auctioned.
Provided they haven't unchecked it in their profile.
As a collector I have a search list. A seller can always approach me for an offer. Too bad it is not possible. Catawiki members could check whether they want this or not. And privacy matters, but we're not talking shocking data here. Agree with Andre57france, Disney Meentwyck turns a mosquito into an elephant.
@paulcoret
bedankt voor het out of the box denken.
Dat zou meer moeten gebeuren ;-)
@paulcoret
Thank you for thinking out of the box.
That should happen more ;-)
