(vb Aria)
Uw mening??
We may need to define a main sequence. I see a lot of main series, where the numbering of the albums are mixed up, because the last newest editions have been chosen (example Torens van Schemerwoude) In most cases, the main series is the one with which a series started. the number one is (even though these albums have been reprinted with a newer illustration. (eg Aria)
Your opinion ??
The main sequence is simply all first editions in numerical order. All reprints, in whatever form, are additions.

Basically I agree with Bruce. Only "first releases" belong in a main series
You do have to ask yourself very carefully whether a purely numerical order is desirable. It sounds logical, but very often it is not. Particularly with humorous comics, a numerical order is rather arbitrary, especially if that comic has been published by several publishers (think of Paling & amp; KO). And how do the long stories of Sjors and Sjimmie relate numerically to the one-page comics? What is the numerical position of the many advertisements Suske en Wiskes?
In short, I think that starting from the year of publication is much purer. Even if that means that Gilles0 comes after Gilles1 and Isabel2 after Isabel3
But even then, there are still plenty of things left that require unambiguous agreements.
What to do with books that come out simultaneously in several forms (softcover, hardcover, deluxe)?
Or with comics that have not appeared in books at all. For some one page comics from Natasja ( 492107 ) is a poster the 'first edition'
What to do with "partial reprints" like the Gaston R albums? Is R1 not in the main series (because it only contains previously published work) and R4 does?
What to do with work that is partly (Flash Gordon) published only in a certain language?
And so I can go on and on. Main sequence, it's a nice idea, but I'm not surprised that the implementation so far turns out a little subtle.

A conclusive definition for main series cannot be found because there will always be exceptions to the rule.
A main series only includes first editions arranged chronologically by date of issue.

Of laat mijn geheugen me in de steek?
May I remind you that the main series was mainly created for the modal comic lover who is not interested in a print at all, but just wants to know which regular parts of his series have appeared?
That is why the definition refers to the first editions of the most common series.
There are of course several options: is the latest series the most common? or is that the series with the largest circulation?
The fact remains that the term was not made up for the die-hards. They know how to find their way within the various album series.
Or is my memory failing me?

@arco: No your memory is like that of an elephant! ;-)
I also understood that the main sequence is only for the regular sequence or the current sequence.
However, if possible if it is in the catalog, it will contain a 1st or 1st revised edition. If there is no 1st edition in the catalog, a reprint is simply chosen.
So it's more about the Series than the print version.
Or do I make it more complicated again?

OK, my interpretation was indeed not based on the wishes of the man-in-the-street. Mea Culpa.
In that case, I think the main sequence should be a summary of the easiest versions of a story. So in principle the most recent reprint, because it is in the shops.
And in those cases where there is no current reprint, you choose the cheapest version (usually, but not always the series with the largest circulation). Price is a very important argument for Pietje who is crazy about cars, so he would like to have all the stories of Michel Vaillant.
I think that combination, up-to-date reprint supplemented with cheapest antiquarian print, is the information that benefits the "modal comic reader" the most. The only annoying thing is that this is a lot of work for the administrators, because such a main sequence is dynamic. The content changes with every edition.
