De eerste bezetting van The Kinks bestond uit Ray Davies (gitaar, zang), Dave Davies (gitaar, zang), Pete Quaife (bas) en Mick Avory (drums). Deze samenstelling hield stand gedurende het grootste deel van de jaren zestig. leden van The Kinks in de jaren zeventig, tachtig en negentig waren John Dalton, John Gosling, Andy Pyle, Gordon Edwards, Mark Haley, Jim Rodford, Ian Gibbons en Bob Henrit.
