I'm only now noticing it, but I don't quite understand why it was decided to display the images in boxes with a light gray background and portrait format with an aspect ratio of 3:4.

This works well with books and comics, because they are usually rectangular and upright. But with coins, for example, you see that almost all (square) images in vertical direction get a useless gray fill, which only makes the page longer. In the case of postage stamps, this applies to almost half of the stamps (the landscape formats).

In the old layout, the images were scaled back to a landscape plane (with transparent background), so that landscape scans were always shown relatively larger. (Currently shown on the "Newest Items in Catalog" pages.) Now that effect is reversed. Isn't it strange that portrait stamps are shown larger than landscape stamps of the same size, isn't it? ( Random example )

The obvious choice, of course, is a square plane, so that portrait and landscape images are resized equally.

Or is there an underlying (functional) reason that I am overlooking?

They have done that filling because otherwise the pictures will be too small for a 65 inch TV.

you will get that in response

@Tammo

First of all, I am a Dutch person living in Germany.

As a Dutch person, I always work with the Dutch institution at LastDodo.

Now this morning I was busy with the plates, and I noticed that if someone from France, Germany or England fills in what details it is not displayed on the Dutch institution, see example 4892483.

Then I looked at the French institution, there it is.

When checking the German, French and English settings, I noticed that the whole Layout looks different, e.g. the images are a lot smaller, and a lot more stuff.

Is that an error or is currently only working on the Dutch institution.

Greetings John

@Lyonesse

The layout is the same in every language version. You have to make sure when switching to another version that you are logged in there too. Your avatar must be the same as on the NL site.

The details field is not automatically translated / modified in other languages. In this example, text has been added to Details from the French language version, which is why you will see this in that language version.
It is up to the user and administrator to also place that text translated in the other language fields of Details.

Improvement in the Stamps

This is the Designer / Engraver of a stamp.

In the Dutch institution, only the Designer of a stamp is indicated.

The German, French and English settings indicate Designer / Engraver, Engraving.

At the Dutch institution, the word Engraver can also be put after the designer.

Have also filled in many names of Engravers with the designers, see History example No. 1116303 they are now gone due to ignorance, but it is a pity that such an information is lost.

Seems like a good proposal, it should at least be in accordance with the foreign-language sites.

The administrators must judge the correctness / inaccuracy of the information, they have that knowledge.

Fine.

Now my question to the postage stamp administrators.

Can someone reject the changes from Briefmarke and put them back again? I had contact with Briefmarke about this yesterday, they also don't know that from the Engravers

First it concerns the 1938 Presidents (United States of America), otherwise I have not yet looked at what everything has been removed.

At the time I did a lot of research into the Engravers, the information is 100% correct.

Greetings John.

Tammo,

to get a selection field for the nominal value

It would idd be a good (great) enrichment. The last few days I have regularly had to think 'if only I could search / filter by value'.

I am (still) in the initial phase: clicking, clicking and clicking to get my collection and search list on it. But before I can click I must of course search, search and search. The detail contains all the info, so I sometimes have to click open up to 10 different items. Usually this would not be necessary if a catalog number were shown in the gallery view. 'Michel number' is probably the most used, and also the most filled.

In the bottom line under an item in the gallery view are 'year' and 'nominal value' (where a comment has rightly been placed somewhere with regard to readability: may be slightly darker gray). In many cases there is also room to display the Michel catalog number, for example, between square brackets. If there is no space (enough), it is a pity: click on detail. If there is enough space, there is a chance that multiple windows will not have to be clicked (a catalog number 1a and 1b makes it very clear to a real collector).
You can also make it crazy to parameterize, such as for the number of images in the gallery: preferred choice catalog. Even more satisfaction.
And, if you opt for the large images (4 in a row, as the new gallery screen was initially introduced), there is almost always enough room for a catalog number. If you opt for the very condensed performance (6 in a row) ... sometimes choosing is losing.

Displaying a catalog number is equally valid in the list view. I also wonder why you don't get cross boxes in list view for adding bulk ... The toggle icon (4 blocks) 'Add bulk' is there, and the action bar 'Add bulk' at the bottom also appears. Only the checkboxes per item do not give information.

The selection field on the face value is high on the to-do list.

Legibility of the gray captions I will bring up with the designers.

List view will be refreshed soon, including a checkbox.

So you see again, that being able to search is an issue for everyone.

That is why it is important that catalogs should be well-organized.

and this one is no longer, especially since the switch to 100 stamps on a page has disappeared.

I think there are more than 500,000 stamps with no year mentioned.

and you have to search for it page by page, or search the paper catalog. what a hassle.

In fact, a value search setting would be a good alternative. just as is processed with the Coins.

If you set the default to year, everything that does not contain a year will be on the last pages.

Interesting question from Morits.

What is this finally all about, for example I have set my setting to 5, then you always have 50 stamps per page, and that is okay, and you can see them so well.

But I am a collector, not a dealer.

You write that there are 500,000 stamps without a year, is incorrect.

Have e.g. Looking at America, there are only 2 pages without a year, ie on the last two pages.

Greetings John.

@Morits, I'm looking for pictures there, which is faster than in this catalog at the moment.

@lyonesse, then you should check out Brasil. of Australia, where all kangaroo and George stamps have no date alone, and what about America itself until 1950, a single stamp has a year in that period.

and what is 50 stamps per page, previously we could also see 100 stamps at the same time.

if you normally had 100 pages then this could also be seen in 25 pages.

are you talking about screen setup here?

I am not looking for stamps without a year, I am looking for where my stamp should be that does not have a year, so I have to search the entire catalog to find out which year it comes from

Most likely the people who entered those stamps on 2 pages in America, also could not find the year where those stamps belong. that is why it is also necessary that the catalog should be clearer.

or do we want more stamps to be added to those last pages

@Fazerco, what are you talking about? per year if my stamp is listed without the year, then you spend an evening trying to find 1 stamp. and especially if it is Standard, after all you may never see the same stamp.

and that is the disadvantage of this online catalog, previously you could see for several years in terms of pictures with the switch from photo gallery to showcase

Tammo,

There are many eager;) It just keeps getting better.

If you are looking for ideas for list display, among other things ... However, my ideas are mainly philatelic oriented and maybe they don't fit into the overall picture of LD.

Currently I am not using list view. It doesn't really add value to what I'm doing right now. Only theme and usage type are shown in list view surplus compared to the gallery, and you only get a maximum of 5 items on the screen at a time. In older years of most countries, in some cases, especially a catalog number, the perforation and / or the watermark is important to determine whether you have the LD item in collection or not. Sometimes also the issue date, but this is usually limited to year only on LD. And sometimes also the comments (details).

What would be very interesting is a detailed / list view of a series. Eg. right click on an item and get the option 'Detail list Series'. Kind of like a new research screen. There does not have to be 100 items on the screen. Only the stamps of the same series (of the same country of course), in all their variations that are present on LD, but with their specific relevant detail in each case. Now you can click on the picture to see the detail (screen), and then click to see the series (only the pictures), and then click on each stamp to see the detail (screen): a list that is too long ( a lot of space loss). Many clicks, and the user is assumed to have an elephant memory (I - fortunately - don't). I prefer to see things nicely on one screen, with a bulk add checkbox. Computers work for me, and not the other way around. Can't I also dream?

PS: this is not about the picture series of African countries or Arab mid-seventies situations. For stamps that look the same at first sight, but are slightly different. That is why they also have a different number in a (paper) catalog. The difference can be the date of issue, the perforation, the watermark, the paper, the eraser, the dimensions, the type of printing technique, the printing company or the color (shade).

So it's about how easily I can find a stamp with no year in the current catalog, not so, but before that it was.

Despite the fact that there are many people who are not looking at all or are too lazy, so that so many pages arise where stamps are placed where no year is mentioned.

and that's going to be made worse by this catalog because the search engine is limited.

What's the matter with community.
Where can you properly find a starting point for questions?
Everyone's talking about doubling (Doubling) and more of those crazy words.
It is full of duplicates records, cdees, and other.
Now look at that and don't do everything better.
Then that naming of the music
BV: world music is a genre (sjanre) Beat, rock, pop rock, In Deventer they also have Textile pop rock. Is that not something for the music lovers here at or at Lasdodo?
My view on this community is. "After the departure of a deceased fellow member and manager, things have not improved.

In the end, this letter is a complaint about entering data from records, CDs and other music carriers.

Henk, that is very simple, it is necessary for the administrator so that he can find duplicates more easily by searching for this word. If everyone thinks they are clear in their own way by messing around, then they will not be found. Clear?

Hello Henk,
Glad you can get back to your collection and post to the forum again.

The forum has always been structured as it is now, nothing has changed so far. If you are looking for a specific forum, look to the left.

We have chosen the word DOUBLURE to indicate duplicate items. Just as Morits puts it, to make the search for it possible.

Music collectors and administrators are fine with the terms used. Music is also a matter of taste and everyone has a different one. By the way, we welcome every administrator who does his best to maintain and improve the catalog.

Mvg,
Tammo

The word double has nothing to do with what is meant by the word Duplicate.

It is correct if you enter twice, 144,165 results will appear, but that is e.g. with beer coasters already 74,878 times as Double-sided.

The word Doublure appears 1069 times in the entire Catalog.

I have now followed the entire discourse on the word Doublure only.

Why not leave it as it was, enter a Doublure in the Community at the Duplication pages.

In my opinion, it worked fine like this, I have maintained this way recently with the records.

Entered a duplicate and 1 or 2 days later they were gone.

Why not keep what works well.

With the change in Doublure that is now in the Catalog, there are those that are months old.

It was certainly not like that, this has crept in at Postzegels during the reporting of duplicates before collectors / shops started hanging on it.
This is partly the reason that an item must be immediately clearly recognizable by the title, that it is a duplicate,

This applies to all sections in the catalog.
