One of several versions made. The Escort was introduced in 1968. The first versions was light blue or white with red interior, black baseplate and turned hubs. A light green police car version was also made with this wheeltype (#270) as well as a kit version (Action Kit 1004) At some point between 1968 and 1972, a red metallic version with white interior was added. In 1969 Dinky started to introduce Speedwheels (the equivalent of Corgi's Whizzwheels), for the Escort the change is believed to have happened in 1972 and this version remained in production until 1976. The two official color variants of the Speedwheel-version are metallic blue and metallic red, both with white interior, the baseplate was now silver/chrome. I also know for a fact, that the red metallic version was available as an Action Kit... I had it as a kid! The boxes also changed during the Escort-era. Early versions had all-cardboard boxes, while later versions (starting 1973) used cardboard bases with bubble packs. All versions have opening bonnet, hood and doors.
