Very difficult ... especially to determine the order because it continues to compare apples with pears.
I can't really make a top 10 either. Below is at least a series of 10 of my favorite albums. This is out of sequence and off the cuff.
1. Looking Black
2. In Search of the Time Bird (4 albums)
3. The incal (6 albums)
4. The Intriguer - Asterix
5. Watchmen (the english version)
6. The Chinkle
7. Cromwell Stone (3 albums)
8. Idyll
9 Koos Voos
10. Lea
A problem with the above list is that it specifically mentions albums or short series. Authors that I make great work are not in the list, because I cannot choose 1 album.
Will Eisner (I prefer the Spirit in black and white)
Bernie Wrightson
Bill Watterson
Manara
Caza
Tardi
Comes
Don Lawrence
Hanko Kolk
and of course, how could it be otherwise,
Rene Uilenbroek;)
I still have to enter almost everything in Catawiki, so I will come across some gems. :)

Well then I will also participate :)
1 The Jewels of Bianca Castafiore - Tintin (Duh!)
2 Bone (Actually the whole series, but if it has to be 1 story then number 16 - Eyes of the Storm)
3 Zoo by Frank & amp; Bonifay. Here too it is impossible to choose between the 3 parts
4 The monster of the Moerplaat - Franka
5 The Arrival of Shaun Tan
6 Horizon by Lian Ong (2 parts) (For me still the best Dutch comic ever made)
7 The Rough Guide - Meccano
8 Across the Limits of Time .. (2 parts) by Abolin & amp; Pont
9 The Last Song of the Malaterres - Companions of Twilight, Bourgeon
10 Sandman van Gaiman and many others

Hello, Comic Book Enthusiasts
I don't see any of Baard en Kale, Guus Slim and peek-a-boo?
I have read hundreds of comics, but these are still very good

Before we get stuck in lists of albums from a bygone era, good comics are also being made lately. How about the series 'Blacksad' by Guarnido and Canales: astonishingly well drawn and cast-iron stories. Or the 'cycling strips' The toeless eagle and Vinkenbrood from Lax. Christophe Blain's 'Gus' should also not be left unmentioned

But also the 'oldies' Tardi and Loisel (again) do a good job. In fact, Tardi's latest album 'The Great Slaughter' is at the top of his already impressive oeuvre. The same goes for Loisel's 'Magasin General'.

Cartoonist Seth recently released the album 'George Sprott'. Truly majestic. Beautifully styled, moving and humorous.

I find it very difficult to draw up a top so many. I'd rather give a list that should be read in random order. Although .... No. 1 is certain: all of Tardi's work. Below follow:

  • 'Chalk line' from Prado *
  • the series 'The children of the wind' and 'The companions of the twilight' by Bourgeon
  • 'Letters from the bar' by Stassen-Lapière
  • the series 'In Search of the Time Bird' and 'Magasin General' by Loisel
  • the series 'Gilles de Geus' by Kolk-de Wit
  • 'The Treasure of the Country' by Julsing *
  • 'Captain Scarlet' by David B-Guibert
  • 'Fort Bongo' of Loustal-Coatalem *
  • 'Rocket to the Moon' / 'Men on the Moon' by Hergé
  • the series 'He Pao' by Vinkh
  • 'Beyond the Limits of Time' by Pont-Abolin
  • 'Rampokan' by v. Dongen *
  • 'Bran Ruz' from Auclair-Deschamps *
  • 'Caesar's laurel wreath' by Uderzo-Goscinny
  • the series 'The Adventures of Kobijn' by Trondheim-Le Gall
  • 'The unlucky bird' by Dethorey-Le Tendre *
  • 'Over there' from Tronchet-Sibran *
  • Mister Black by Griffu-Dufaux
  • 'Western' by v. Hamme-Rosinski
  • 'Caatinga' by Hermann
  • the series 'Isaac the pirate' by Blain.

* You won't find these albums in a list any time soon. Still, in my opinion they are very worthwhile, if not sublime.

Nice thread that has been picked up again. So here are my favorites.

I haven't read comics for about 5 years (currently in New Zealand) but try to stay up to date with all the comic news via the internet, and Catawiki of course.

So the list looks a bit dated.

I have made a selection of the comics that stayed with me the most after reading the comics.

1- Spiegelman, Maus.

2- tardi, Trench warfare (1 and 2 can also be reversed)

3- Rosinski, Thorgal parts 9 to 13

4- Hermann, Mission Vandie

5- Hermann / Bernard Prince, Scorched Earth

6-vance, all the tears of hell

7- barges, the tower

8- Don Lawrence, the Killer of Eriban

9- Hermann / comanche, the sky is red over laramy

10- Hermann, Caatinga.

I can say that I am a huge fan of Hermann.

Greetings, Matthe.

Here's my top 10. Many similarities but also a number of new ones

Chninkel, Rosinski (rightly on many lists)

Trench warfare, Tardi (impressive drawing)

Kraut, Peter Pontiac (one of the most impressive albums from Dutch soil)

Balade of the salty sea, Hugo Pratt (this grand master should not be missing in the lists

Fair of the Immortals, Bilal (nothing to add)

Contract with God, Eisner (mother of all graphic novels)

Vidocq, Kresse (I can't choose but this Dutch grandmaster has to be included)

The archers, Rosinski, Van Hamme (actually the entire Thorgal series)

Siberia, Micheluzzi

Little Nemo, McCay (amazing artwork even though it's over 100 years old)

I also doubted the album Thee for two by Daan Jippes. Album remains a gem within the Dutch comics scene.

FA Breysse turned almost 94 years old and only died in 2001. Why he stopped drawing comics in 1955 is unknown to me.

Regarding Oscar Isidoor, thanks Boekenmagazijn. I only think Mr. Breysse had a short life, led astray by Oberon's reissues where it is said "It was his first comic, it would remain his only". Non information from a publisher ............ and misinterpretation. But it remains a shame about those "only" 8 albums. I also searched the internet with a French question, but could not find much about F.A. Breysse. Mysterious guide and SOS 23 75 I found the best stories.
