I already sent you an email about that tonight. During the last administrator meetings it turned out that there are collectors of these types of clippings, although we had not originally expected this.
Of course, they are not in anyone's way, especially because they are not shown by default. Would only be nice if collectors could provide them with images.

What exactly is the policy?

Some have also appeared in book form.
Can magazine clippings now also be imported?

And does such a thing belong to the magazines, or to the comic books?
Or will they soon have their own section? (It also says everything else, it won't stay there forever)

The policy for the comics section is that clippings are included if it is a completed story (or joke \ gag) or a non-album part of a story, such as an announcement strip.

The intention is to place clippings in its own department. After all, the type of clipping cannot be unambiguously linked to a single other section because the source can be either a magazine or a newspaper. And those are \ become two different headings.

The policy with regard to the comics section is that clippings are included if they are a completed story (or gag\gag) or a part of a story that has not been published in album, such as an announcement strip.

From this I understand (by the word "or") that a completed story that has also appeared in book form can now also be included as a clipping with the comics.
Is that what you mean?
This wasn't allowed in the first place, right?
If you have all the gags included, you don't actually have to buy the book anymore.

a completed story that has also been published in book form, nowadays may also be included as a cutout with the comics.

That is indeed allowed. You also have to approach the problem from the other side. If a story has been entered as a clipping and it appears (years) later in book form. Should we then reject the clipping retroactively? That is of course not possible. Just think of the Tom Poes stories that were on the back of the Revu.

In our view, the only consistent solution was to always allow full stories. It also just turns out that people have them as a cutout in their collection anyway.

If you have all the gags included, you actually don't have to buy the book anymore.

I assume you are referring to the same discussion as what the consequences are of including all the back covers of the Eppos etc. I see the potential problem, but it is up to the rights and stakeholders to think about it or not. I'm just a stupid archivist.

I assume you are referring here to the same discussion as what is the consequence of including all of the Eppo's back covers etc.

Indeed, I had that in mind.
I cannot find that discussion, but René, said at the time, I believe that we could proactively reduce it so that it would not be readable and the rights of the creators would not be violated.

That seemed (and still seems to me) a great solution.

I see the potential problem, but it is up to the lawyers and stakeholders to decide what to do or not. I'm just a stupid archivist.

The problem with creative people is that they often don't stand up for their rights well enough.
As far as I am concerned, that is not a license not to take them into account.

You have to approach the problem from the other side as well. If a story has been entered as a clipping and it appears (years) later in book form. Should we then reject the clipping retroactively? That is of course not possible.

I totally agree.

Of course they don't get in anyone's way

I happened to look at Bert van der Meij 's comics, because I wanted to enter some things of his that are not yet in the catalog, and it really bothered me (otherwise I wouldn't have started it). Not so much because of those gray pictures, but because they are actually duplicate entries.
That clippings don't get in the way isn't a very convincing bibliographic argument, any more than "they are collected".

It is understandable that newspaper clippings are introduced, because no one (except maybe mister Matla ;-)) would think to keep complete newspapers. Clippings are the only way to catalog pre-publications of certain comics.

That collectors only tear out the comics from magazines that they find interesting, you can't forbid them. But it does not automatically add value to the catalogue.

If I have kept a certain follow-up story from, for example, the Spirou (in my case: The ice queen by Frommeltje and Viola, because it was shortened and redrawn in an album), then I can check all relevant issues from that magazine and add it to my collection . In a personal note I mention that it is a clipping. No problem, right?!

It should be borne in mind that in such a case the story must be included in the content of the relevant journal. This is not (yet) the case with Spirou, but it is with Will.

Disregarding the copyright question, is someone who only collects Eppo gags (the back covers of the magazine) allowed to enter all of them as clippings, even though the entire magazines are already in the catalog?
(Example from my own collection: I have a folder with all Stampede comics by Peter de Wit.)
And why stop at newspapers and magazines? As a Julsing fan, I once cut the story The Blue Light from Cartoon Aid , because the book took up too much space. Shall I enter that as a snippet as well?
(PS I'm not normally a book killer, but it was a bad copy, bought for 1 guilder at the flea market.)

Collections of cuttings are always personal work, comparable to a first edition of Amoras with a cover of a third edition pasted on it. You can't forbid anyone to put it in their closet like that, but it has no meaning for this catalogue.

The consideration whether or not certain comics will appear in book form is irrelevant, because that is a completely different publication.

We have certainly reviewed all those advantages, disadvantages and arguments. As far as we are concerned, the limit is indeed with newspapers and magazines and with the definition that Pegag gave earlier

I see no objection to simply disposing of the Bonte clipping supply, to which no collectors are attached and no plate attached. Has already been largely done wb continued clippings. If someone turns out to have them, they can be added properly and completely.

No, I wouldn't object to that either, although Spirou clippings in particular sometimes contain a lot of valuable information that is not easy to find elsewhere. So I would argue for tweezers instead of a blunt ax.

If you agree to example is shy ...

I have no objection to this either, as long as the stories are not mentioned in the magazines. But he should have taken the trouble to mention which songs the clippings come from.

Yes, I had e-mailed that to him. Perhaps items that are mandatory for auction?

Currently no Franka clippings have been placed for the auction. Indeed, the requirement is that every item submitted to the auction must be in the catalog. So he may be entering this in preparation for the auction.

I suspect so, because a shop that enters something and then does not immediately offer it for sale gives me food ... (;-)

In the series " The craziest from Dutch Mad" numbers 27 to 55 are still mentioned. No photos or further information have been added. There is also no one who owns them. Mi. these are ghost strips that can be removed.

As an aside, the series is misnoted.
The publications read: The craziest from 's Neerlands Mad .
