We understand what you mean, but you don't understand that this doesn't solve anything for you.
Suppose that History would be a separate genre and that you selected History on the left side of Genre.
Then you cannot make a deeper selection on Drama, war or the like
You can currently only select one Genre.
So either what stripspeldjes suggests to create multiple Historical genres or start working with Sub-genres or wait for the selection/filter system to be improved so you can also make multiple selections.

Awesome. Thank you. This will certainly help to make the database even more searchable for these types of publications.

but what problem does that solve?
Maybe you could also add Historical Comedy? ( #1044731 or #4756585 ).
Or Historical Documentary ( #5320077 ).

That solves the problem that history is not specifically linked to drama. Drama is a genre in its own right. History too. It is quite possible to have an extensive discussion about what constitutes a genre and what constitutes a theme. But that's not the point now. IMDB uses Genres and Plot Keywords. Last Dodo could do that too, but that is not the case for the time being.
So separating "Historical Drama" in History and Drama resolves the fact that you can choose both genres/themes separately in combination with other genres/themes. Seeking alignment with IMDB's logic doesn't seem so stupid to me. Why should it be different here? Take a look at my recent entry #9867303 According to IMDB the genres: Documentary (actually a theme), biography, crime, history and War.
It would be nice if these separate genres/themes could be introduced within LD. In most cases, this is the case, except for "Historical Drama" because two genres have been merged here. Loose is more convenient instead of including all possible combinations. Like the above examples of History of the World and Memories of 1972 where comedy/documentary and history go together. If history can be selected separately, you can, as it were, make the combination yourself by selecting all separate genres/themes. I really don't know how to explain this more clearly.

But History (like Romance) is actually more of a Theme than a Genre.

Genres remain a difficult matter. What exactly is drama?
In principle, that is a play/film in which something dramatic happens, or is this thought too simple?
Then almost all films would fall under this genre.
We can very easily change "Historical drama" to "History", but what problem does that solve?

A sub-genre solution can only work well if the (main) genres are clearly defined and then the sub-genres are also defined.

I want to recall an old post about the separation of the "Historical Drama" selection into History and Drama. The latter already exists. I still can't mention History separately for documentaries or other genres. It's also a separate genre at IMDB. Could this be looked at again? If for some reason it is not possible to separate this, can the History genre be added? After all, drama also exists as a separate genre.

Sometimes I run into the fact that I can't get rid of certain information properly. This concerns an extended edition and or restoration edition. Unlike a director's edition, these options are not (yet) included. Is it an idea to add this to execution? Now I include it in info but I can't sort it that way. Has this ever been thought about?

Thanks. Until this morning this was not so visible with new input. Now it is.

That's right, I corrected it today.

If it says 16:9 / 1.6:1 I would prefer to be able to input both. 16:9 (the most commonly mentioned format) has now been removed from the selection list.

The problem is that the aliases are not (yet) listed in the drop-down list.
As a solution to this, the image sizes are now:
1.33:1 [4:3]
1.78:1 [16:9 ]
This also makes them visible in the dropdown:

Nice discussion about formats. Surely this is a collecting platform and not a mathematical club?
The most convenient thing is if you can enter what is also on the cover. If it says 16:9 / 1.6:1 I would prefer to be able to input both. 16:9 (the most commonly mentioned format) has now been removed from the selection list. I don't think many people know what format to enter now as an alternative to it. I don't think it got any clearer than that.

I would also add true as an "additional genre" and not a subgenre. After all, it is a true drama

Why is there still no subgenre field? BV drama is the main genre and, among other things, true events is a subgenre.

Eastman and Edison once came up with a format they called academy. (4 by 3)
And yes both men are now deceased, the naming still lives on in the annual Academy awards.
You can write down mathematical formulas as complicated as you like, simple is often enough:
4:3 = 1.333333333333333333333……… rounded 1.33
16:9 = 1.777777777777777777777777……..rounded off 1.77
In other words, is history relevant?
