@DM
The number field works in conjunction with the game sequences. Unfortunately, the game sequence field is so polluted that we can't do anything with it. Also, as already written by Zwendel, it is almost impossible to check the order of certain series due to the add-ons - expansion packs, games that suddenly get their own series.
@DM
The code numbers are simply printed on most boxes or cartridges of the games. Some of these codes also indicate the area of issue. Like you have DMG-???-FAH with gameboy, for example, FAH is Benelux and France. But you also have the DMG-???-UKV, UKV stands for United Kingdom. And then versions with ESP, ITL, NOE, etc.
Perhaps also easier for Arco the codes, so that you can see them next to the year in the overview, just like with records and CDs. And the serial numbers don't even show up in the feed on CW.
Almost most games have such code, although I don't have and know everything.
And the year field will never be lost, the dimensions field can also be removed as far as I'm concerned. A jewel case (CD box) has a fixed size and yet people know how to get a difference.

You mean a 5.25 floppy disk, or a 3.5 floppy disk. The 5.25 came in a case, but that is also a standard size.
The only difference are the boxes in which they were contained, which were made as large as possible to stand out in the stores. And most of the boxes have therefore also died or went straight to the waste paper.

@Disney :Behoud het veld afmetingen!
@Disney What I mean by adding a fixed list of code numbers is that it should be easy to have new numbers added. I think the easiest way is via the forum
Just to clarify, it would be a free field, but with multiple input options, basically like 'Publisher' and 'Developer'.
@Disney I also think that the number of players can simply be read in the manual and one should only enter that if it is stated somewhere
With each field (new or existing) one should ask oneself whether it is a) essential and b) useful. Each additional field is extra work for both the importer and the administrators.
Catawiki is a catalog and information that is essential to define an item as different/unique is therefore part of it. Therefore fields for 'Code number' and 'Barcode' are essential.
The maximum number of players on-line is nice to know, but not essential to define the game. Moreover, that in itself means nothing. If you wanted to make that meaningful, you should also specify the type of Multiplayer (Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Team Battle, Arena,...) and the number of players for each type.
@Disney You have to have a little faith in a video game importer! ;)
Good thing you put a smiley after it. There are indeed a number of importers that can be trusted, but there are also others (often simply out of ignorance/unfamiliarity with the site). And blindly approving something does not improve the quality of the catalog.
If those extra, non-essential fields didn't HAVE to be approved (ie if one could selectively approve new items, field by field) I wouldn't really care.
@Disney :Keep field dimensions!
That 'Sizes' field also falls under the 'Nice' but 'non-essential' and 'unverifiable' category, I think. And if you are consistent you should also add 'Thickness' ;-)

No, I was talking about Caddys. You had that in the early days of the CD-ROM, then called Compact Disc in full. At that time you had different types of compact discs, Redbook, greenbook and a few more and that had to do with whether music, video, data or something else could be stored. The caddies were a kind of CD-ROM protective cover that you had to put in the computer together with the CD-ROM in it. You then talked about a CD tray, where the protective cover of the computer flipped open (fell down) and nothing came out. You then only saw a hole where you had to put that box.
Furthermore, you yourself now also mention different formats, while that is nowhere to be indicated, except in the details. And it is precisely the box that is very important to know whether someone has it and what it looks like. A game is only new or unused in packaging if you also have the box. You can only know that if the box is also listed in CataWiki. If the jewelcase version is not/was not sold separately from the box, then they are not yet included separately in the Catalog?
And as a video game collector, I don't agree with you that the boxes are gone. I do know a number of shops that still sell them and they certainly still pop up often on internet sites.
A field that may also be added is the number of discs/floppys/disks.
And then we are still only talking about PC and MAC games.

And most of the boxes have therefore died or gone straight to the old paper.
Not even necessary. Many of those old (90s) PC games were 'reissued' without a box. The so-called OEM versions. So if you see a Gabriel Knight- Sins of the Father without a box, it may well be that that box has never been there at all.

That field Dimensions' I think also falls under the category 'Nice' but 'not essential' and 'not controllable'. And if you are consistent, you should also add 'Thickness' ;-)
Dimensions is a free field and so the importer is free to also specify the thickness. Please state this in the details! Furthermore, I think dimensions are essential as long as the field version is still missing. It is not always possible to tell from the image (s) what format the game has, even if it is standard. And standard means that there is only 1 and if I just open the video games section, I see many different versions that probably don't all have the same format! :)
Furthermore, the size in PC or Mac games can certainly be checked, because if the image is correct, you can see whether it is a box version or another kind. For example, to look good in the store, the boxes were standard (except for luxury editions and collections, isn't it useful to specify a size?;)) And a size is therefore known and can therefore be checked. .
Furthermore, thickness seems very important to me in, for example, the collectors editions, where, for example, a figure was added.

So the dimensions of this game you entered are incorrect?
You think it was in a box, so you should do the size of that box.

You must enter the dimensions that you know at the time. If someone has the box, he or she enters the scans of it and the associated data, i.e. the dimensions of the box.
I don't have the box, but I do have the jewel case with the video game itself, so I entered that as well. So I also entered the dimensions of it.
From the Tomb Raider series, I had entered the jewel case of 1318199 , but it was pointed out that the game already existed, so I added it. I don't have the dimensions of that box, otherwise I would have entered it. Actually, that also applies to 956023 , only I don't have the game of it, but that is the jewel case, while there is also a boxed version of it. Incidentally, that is a good example of a well-numbered series.
The best solution is just to enter the execution field. You can indicate whether it concerns a jewel case or a boxed version.
@pegag: That's right, but then I think that one should try as best as possible to show that it concerns an OEM version. These are indeed other items and must be listed separately in the catalogue. I think that could be seen if there was a barcode / bar code on it.

Laten we dvd's erbij pakken.
Apart from this detailed discussion, I have noticed a sentiment among some in recent weeks not to include fields that do not add anything to the identification of an item in Catawiki.
This is a standpoint that is defensible, but which in my opinion is practically not entirely valid. Let's get DVDs out there. There you can also enter director, actors, etc. They do not add anything to the identification, but do make it possible to search the catalog / collection via various entries. They are also not fields that an administrator must all check before an item is approved. (Unless an importer technically fills in those fields incorrectly.) Errors pop up later on their own and can be corrected at that point.
What I just want to say is that one should not focus solely on identification , but must also give the fun and entertaining side of Catawiki a role in the decision process. And that there is more management work to do ... soit.

Probeer call of duty eens.
A. where do you see those numbers? When I do an overview of the games, I don't see anything. Fortunately in the title it does!
B. accidentally numbered by a DM? Give call of duty a try. There you just run into a game of modern warfare 2. Should that game be number 6.5 or number 2? And will modern warfare become number 1 or 4?
And yes reissues can be distinguished, they do not have to be OEM versions.

Bij o.a. Videopac, VC4000 en VG5000 wordt nummer gebruikt. A.u.b. laten staan dus.
Following administrator consultation, the following changes are proposed
At least a quarter of the administrators were not consulted :-)
Among others Videopac, VC4000 and VG5000 number is used. Please So leave it alone.

Bij o.a. Videopac, VC4000 en VG5000 wordt nummer gebruikt. A.u.b. laten staan dus
Laten we dvd's erbij pakken.
There are indeed OEMs, but they were usually delivered in cardboard sleeves with a clear imprint "OEM, not for resale". And those are other versions, must be included separately.
I'm pretty sure the "original" games that come in a jewel case were all originally in a cardboard box. I don't remember ever buying 1 game in just a jewel case (and I bought many).
But I still don't see what specifying the dimensions might help with the identifying a game / version.
Either you do not have the box and then you cannot specify the dimensions.
Either you do have the box and then you give scans of the front and back + possibly CD and then the dimensions do not add anything.
At least a quarter of the administrators have not been consulted :-)
Number is used for Videopac, VC4000 and VG5000, among others. Please so leave it
Well, there you have (partially) a point. The problem is that the numbering is not actually about Game Series, but about a numbering of the entire Platform. That was already taken care of by numbering the title.
Will it still be necessary to provide separate numbering? The numbering of the game series is currently only used for visual sorting.
And that brings us back to 'Game series' and for which they are currently all 'misused'. Perhaps we should do something about that (without waiting for central lists).
This is a position that is defensible, but which in my opinion is practically not entirely valid. Let's get DVDs out there. There you can also enter director, actors, etc. These do not add anything to the identification, but do make it possible to search the catalog / collection via various entries.
You can hardly compare it with DVDs (films). There is basically everything (down to the smallest supporting roles) available on the internet. That is therefore perfectly controllable. However, the dimensions of boxes and the number of players is much more difficult to find.
And for me such (uncontrollable) fields are OK if it clearly states that they have not been approved by the administrator.

I will continue to argue for the field implementation, because then the size is not necessary for me. So I like to collect boxed versions and other originals and I would like to look that up. As Arco said, that is a nice search entry point. Now that is not possible.
I agree with Arco that you need a lot of search points to find a game. To continue the comparison with DVDs, there you have, for example, a field version and there you have steel boxes or, for example, standard plastic box. With games (PC or Mac) you also have sliding boxes, plastic boxes or collector's editions (large boxes). If you think about that for a moment, then that is a nice input field. And what does the region field do with the video games? I don't know any BluRay games yet and the field just seems to have been taken over from the DVDs section.
I think the fun and entertaining side applies CataWiki-wide and so it is nice if as much information as possible is entered can become with a game. This is of course not necessary, as long as the mandatory fields are entered and let them be the control criterion for administrators (in addition to good images, preferably more than 1, but that applies to several sections).
The I can also get rid of game numbering, as long as it is sorted properly and if it is in the title, mention it in the title. I will come back to my aforementioned Tomb Raider series (which I have not introduced, by the way, just changed a few). To see that series / series properly in order, the year must be entered and unfortunately not everyone does that.

Nice, and are you saving something yourself?
Groetjes, MoWoCos
Hello everyone, I just opened a shop with nothing in it yet because I still have to get used to this form - better said, this setup. But with some help that will certainly succeed.
In principle I sell everything that is worthy of collecting and my family is also busy with various collectibles. Hence. Particularly in the field of stamps, coins, banknotes, Cherished Teddies, telephone cards, "dolphins" figurines (mainly glass, "swans" glass figurines and so on.
Every now and then a whole collection goes. I just don't know yet how such a collection can be offered in its entirety on Catawiki. Maybe one of you has an idea ???
I'll hear about it.
Greetings, MoWoCos

@MoWoCos: Is the help not clear enough? If anything is unclear about that, then you just have to report it to the administrators of CataWiki, because then they can do something about it. Not that I have anything against people who are self-taught, because I actually am. However, I know a lot about databases and catalogs, which is why I understood this system.
You are supposed to understand the basic things (maybe Bulk Adding is not covered) to be able to work with CataWiki if you do that read. If you still have questions, you can indeed ask a question in the forum for the relevant collection area or topic.
Groet.
@DisneyMeentwijc: it was / is a matter of "getting around" with this system. If you have been used to MP, Speurders, eBay or eBay-Kleinanzeigen, etc. for years, this is of course a bit different. And yes, I hate "reading instructions" if that's what you mean.
Greetings.

It is indeed a matter of getting around. Items such as 3310949 cannot be used in "our" system. No complete collections in one item.
This should be -for shop sales- a combination offer of 144 phone cards. (Year 2020 is also not OK.)
On the one hand, it takes your work to enter the items neatly, on the other hand, you save a lot of time by being able to sell items that have already been have been entered and can be sent directly to your shop (although custom images are much appreciated).
