Dear people, I still can't believe that at Catawiki it has been decided to use the date of issue of stamps as the sequence.
I keep coming across duplicates, which are caused every time by issuing dates
if I put different catalogs next to each other, then I come across series with the Michel, where different issuance dates are mentioned for different stamps.
blindly than this one dates are taken over and such a series falls apart completely.
Then the same series is simply placed in the Yvert with one date.
So, according to Yvert, someone enters a stamp that is placed (as an example in the year 1950)
someone enters the same stamp, which is also mentioned in the series of 1950, but with an issue date of 1958.
en then do not forget the other catalogs which may also contain other data.
And before you know it you have 3 to 5 duplicates related the simple stamp on 1.
The reason that this simply occurs easily, is due to the fact that 99% of the stamps do not show any issue dates other than just a year, so people look up such a stamp in a series with that year.
and if it is there, it is between the 1950 series, and if it is not there at Catawiki, they enter it.
Then another administrator moves that stamp to the date of issue, and the stamp is missing from that series.
In between that stamp appears in another catalog with a different date, and is placed there.
It could have been decided to place series together, and to mention the date of issue separately for each stamp to complete this.
and had it didn't become such a mess.
As an example; yesterday I put a series in order Russia 1889/1904
nr 41 to 50. the series actually indicates that these stamps were issued between 1889 and 1904. in principle this issue date 1889/1904 should already be enough.
but to my surprise half of these stamps had been moved to all those years, and as a result I came across 11 Doublures in this series.
After all, there were even stamps from this series in 1903. but Russia does not appear in the Michel 1903, nor in this series. so most likely that is a date from yet another catalog.
And in the end it has been completely changed back to the old state today, and there will be unnecessary duplication, because what was originally in 1889 is only the original half of the series.
and that is strange at sight, because in the Michel the whole series is simply under 1889/1904
and we just start over again to fill in the missing In the end there are plenty of people who cannot follow that their stamp is not yet in that series, because they may simply have a different catalog or even none.
during these changes today by an administrator also suddenly all Michel numbers changed, even in numbers that do not exist in my catalog.
see 2121019 with the number changed from 49y 3.50 R to 55Y 1.00 R and the d atum from 1889 to 1902
please let a series be a series as they appear in each catalog and avoid unnecessary work
@aartinge
Je zal toch eens grondig moeten gaan kijken in de Michelcatalogus:
1) er is niet één serie 1889-1904, maar 2 series;
2) de verbetering van het nummer 49 y naar 55 y is terecht: 49 y slaat op de zegel 7K van 1902... 55 y is de zegel 3.50 K van 1902.
@aartinge
You will have to take a thorough look at the Michel catalogue:
1) there is not one series 1889-1904, but 2 series;
2) the improvement of the number 49 y to 55 y is justified: 49 y refers to the stamp 7K of 1902... 55 y is the stamp 3.50 K of 1902.

@ Tapir, I have now heard that Michel himself has changed all numbers.
But in fact you make it even worse if you now say that there are even 2 series from 1889.
after all, the michel made a distinction between the stamps with form stripes in a complete series 1889/1904 from 1K to 7R
and there was another series from 1889, 2 May / 1904 starting with 4K t / m 1R with also all those different shapes.
So in fact it will now be 4 series? and all those different catalogs that are used, it will be something for me
What am I making worse?
Can I do something about Michel changing or modifying his series?
In principle, this should not have repercussions on the series in Catawiki, but for this you need to have an agreement between all administrators and users to classify series on a different basis, which is not the case.
As long as there are users and administrators who only swear by one or the other catalog we will achieve nothing.

Yes, that is precisely the point, if Catawiki were an inadmissible catalog then you could just leave series together, clear for everyone.
but it is a mess of the combinations because everyone according to its own catalog, and that is why all stamps are sometimes so far apart.
and when a series is finally listed, Catawiki will disassemble the stamps again because apparently the issue of each stamp is important again is.
as if this could not simply be mentioned with the stamps.
so in fact the input mess created by all the different catalogs is then confused again because the stamps are then again move by date of issue.
Sometimes you have to go 3 to 8 pages to find that one stamp that is actually missing from the series.
it is correct all the input from all those different catlogis that cause a mess.
Catawiki had just this mess together m and make it easier to understand.
Something like that, yes, it's nice that the stamp is there with that catalog, but this stamp is from this series, and it belongs there.
@aartinge
Jouw kritiek is gedeeltelijk juist.
@aartinge
Your criticism is partially correct.
You forget that you can look up series by series name: you will then see all stamps with the same series name of one or more years.
Example: the series of 1884 Russia that I modified yesterday. Both the 1884 and 1885 stamps are part of the "1884 Coat of Arms" series, as well as the duplicates that I cannot remove myself (but easier for the super administrator who has to check the duplicates, merge them with the original ones and then remove them).
If you think or see that there are different countries or areas between these stamps, you can choose the specific country or area again.
All of this, of course, assuming that each importer has entered the same series name: that is another problem.
Not easy for the user and not easy for the administrator either...
Daar ga je dan als CWPZ!
Vol vertrouwen in Michel...
There you go as a CWPZ!
Full of confidence in Michel ...
Is there anyone who really understands Tsarist Russia and is knowledgeable - whether or not based on Russian literature - brings order and removes ALL references to non-Russian catalogs ?? Or would the Michel super-Russian still be better ????
Back to the theme!
Release dates are UNKNOWN 98% of the time. Just take a sample at the NVPH in the Netherlands. With all long-term issues - also with Beatrix! - we find HIGH OUT a year. Emission 1864? !!?!?! When issued ????
Michel would consistently be on date of issue ????
Austria 13.11.73 [[7s, 10s], 30.11.1973 [5s], 12.12 .1973 [4s] are grouped together as a series in order of nominal value with numbers 1430-1433; and it goes on and on!
22.03.1974 [3s], 24.05.1974 [2s50], 12.07.74 [2s], 23.10.1974 [1s50] again as a series ... Numbers 1439- 1442.
While this is simply the first years of ONE series "Beautiful Austria"
The ANK of Austria makes it even more colorful! She puts it on 13.03.1978 with the numbers 1582-1601, and adds later published values in its own place! Until 1983 for the 9s with 1761! BUT everything is put together as ONE series! And the later values again double where they belong ... That is possible with a paper catalog!

What I don't understand but I will be a boon again is that there is grumbling about too few administrators, now you have sub-managers.
Elizabeth is a sub-manager of Russia, why does Tapir start messing around in a country that already has its own manager while 10,000 other stamps from countries without manager still have to be reviewed ?, again the same joke as when I was a Vietnam manager, there is still a lot of work to do, why does a project have to go back into the project? be stirred differently? As a general administrator I would not even look in countries that (finally) have their own administrator, someone who specializes in that has fine under control if not then someone like that still calls for help.
Now she has to go to the forum read that '' her country '' has been messed about again and she has to ask nicely whether she will be involved in that from now on, 5 years later same shit.
Groetjes,
Thanks Sindbad, but it doesn't work in this case. For I am the partial administrator of the Soviet Union and of the Russian Federation (modern Russia), and not of ancient Russia. I therefore do not pretend to have the wisdom here and I can make mistakes, although I do my best to be careful. I asked Patrick to look at it together from time to time (2 know more than 1, so I emailed) I was a bit shocked because all kinds of changes I had made might have been reversed, but that doesn't seem to be the case.
Aartinge was shocked by my changes again, but has now also found out that the numbers really have changed, and we are now discussing.
Greetings,
pfffffffffffffffffffffffffff ;)

@Elisabeth, do you know the point of changing numbers, and what you are doing in a file of thousands of stamps.
because if I have already imported these stamps more than 4 years ago with numbers from a catalogue, and you suddenly change the numbers, and I get an order, then I no longer follow it at all, because I suddenly get new numbers in front of me., then I will deliver wrong stamps.
I would rather leave the old numbers and put the new ones behind them. or vice versa.
the solution that both you and tapir apply to just click on the series so that you see everything.
nice idea, but doesn't work, after all the Doublures don't all show up.
and those are the stamps where no serial name has been entered, and even the non-duplicates are not shown if no serial name has been entered.
and what I don't see under series name I will enter, and then we have another duplication.
you actually have to perform too many actions before you see everything.
Of course you could also say, how is it possible that there are so many duplications in it, if it is all as simple as this site works.
the duplications arise because it is not clear, despite the comment "just click on series name"
simply because the issue date is used, and not everyone enters a series name or different series names.
you can't go every time to a series that according to the catalog is 1889, and then half of the stamps turn out to be a few pages further, and again a page after that 1 stamp.
Incidentally, the date of issue is of course also the year that is meant.
the nice thing is that the catalog usually lists just such a series together, and at catawiki it is completely pulled apart.
just look at Russia 1922/1923 Workers and soldiers. Total 1 series.
at catawiki it is 2 series 5 stamps in 1922 and the rest in 1923.
that is why today I also removed 4 duplicates from 1922, because that series was not seen in 1922, despite the fact that it is stated as being 1922 /1923
@aartinge
@aartinge
if I entered these stamps more than 4 years ago with numbers from a catalog, and you suddenly change the numbers, and I receive an order, then I will follow it not at all anymore, because I suddenly get new numbers in front of me, then I will deliver the wrong stamps.
You have a right point and adjustments are necessary.
the solution that both you and tapir apply to just click on the series so you can see everything.
I've already written:
" All this, of course, on the assumption that each importer has entered the same series name: that is another problem.
Not easy for the user and not easy for the administrator ... "
The catalogs follow according to the years mentioned at the top of the series is a utopia: the years are often not the same and the only solution would be to go for one of those catalogs, so to speak. to choose? That is certainly not desirable, taking into account that not everyone owns or uses that catalog.
Developing your own system for your own catalog Catawiki is the solution, but it requires the necessary courage from all users and administrators to to distance himself enough from his personal catalog and to accept new divisions or changes. And finally, most of the work will then lie with the administrators to properly adjust the current format, which is usually grafted into the Michel catalog for the Collect-a-rom feed.
Unfortunately, it will not be until tomorrow, next week. or next month.
Meanwhile, constructive proposals in that direction are always welcome.
If it is possible to have the computer sort only on the michel catalog, then in my opinion a large part of the problem has been solved. Or am I too simple.
Collect-a rom has also followed the MIchel catalog so a large part has already been filled in with michel numbers. Michel is also used a lot in the Netherlands and the numbers are also filled in.
I just want to think along.
@ Tapir

@Tapir, in most cases the series correspond in different catalogs, a single catalog will sometimes have a deviation in terms of date, but that is manageable.
but it is correct that Catawiki adheres to the principle of using release dates, so that a series that is originally listed together can still be listed separately.
I have also indicated in the past that even in the Yvert usually the series are simply listed together and it turns out that in most cases this is also the case with the Michel.
on the contrary, it is a dream to distance yourself from all catalogs in order to build up a different catalog, and to have every stamp on issue date, it just doesn't work.
just assume that a series is a series, and get rid of a build-up of release dates.
See what happens with the series russia 1922 / 1923, 5 stamps are listed imperforated in 1922
it is precisely those people without a catalog that see those stamps and think here g a I put my stamp on it. and then it turns out that the stamp is already mentioned in 1923, 2 pages further.

Aartinge,
aartinge,
precisely those people without a catalog see those stamps and think I'm going to add my stamp to this. and then it actually turns out that the stamp is already mentioned in 1923, 2 pages further.
Aartinge and why would collectors without a catalog look in 1922 instead of 1923?
After all, they need a catalog to look at those dates at all, the years are not on the stamps :)
@Sinbad
Of misschien dezelfde zegel. (onervarenheid?)
@Sinbad
Because those people struggle through the catalog (often hindered by all kinds of frills in the catalog) and then come across the series. Glad that they have finally found the series, they really don't look any further to see if there are similar stamps in other years. Or maybe the same seal. And there are also people who simply add the stamp without checking anything. (inexperience?)

@Sinbad, wat nu?
@Sinbad what now?
After all, they need a catalog to look at those dates at all, the years are not on the stamps :)
I would just buy glasses. in most cases they are there.
but that's not really what the conversation is about. after all, you see what happens, again and again Duplications, and they do not just arise, it is a day's work to remove them every time.
and all this because some stamps cannot be found.
I recently removed another stamp because the series name was not filled in and the title was Oliebol.
the series is called Still Life, and there was no oil globe to be seen on the image, and it was listed after the series and entered on the same page.
So this indicates that sometimes people don't look beyond their noses.
and if they do look, it is important that stamps or series are together.
most people will not spend time looking for a stamp if it is deliberately spaced out in different years.
they do want to take the time to scan a stamp and place it, because it is usually about sales.
they also take the trouble to place a double because the price of the previous stamp does not match the value of the stamp.
there are also people who enter here, and who always enter a price of 0.10 cents
despite the fact that those stamps are sometimes 3 to 5 euros. it seems that they are only busy with their own sales, and not with building a site.
Machin of iets dergelijks....
Of 2014 Gerendal? Of???
What are series ??? And why should they have an unambiguous name ???
We have a series from the UK that started in 1967 and continues to run ... Machin or something like that .... All stamps with the image belong together and are seen as such by Otto Normal user ... Yet it is about 20 [?] different series to keep it manageable .... And even that a Stanley Gibbons or a Michel does not succeed .. .
Soon the Netherlands will receive a number of orchid stamps! That is NOT a series but a block! Do we call it 2014 Orchids ??? Or 2014 Gerendal? Or ???

And the solution is so terribly simple, if you remove all frills (FDCs, Children's Thank You Cards, Cards and other knick-knacks) in the stamp catalog and place them in a philatelisian catalog and all fabricated series that one wants and the other wants that way. is the catalog 20 times less large and chaotic, is it clear to everyone how to search and is it still searchable and are you rid of all the bullshit e3n duplications, there are all problems, buckets, double entries and hopeless discussions or my series and dein series because it was made that way, an ill-considered choice made at a time when they could not yet see the consequences of this draconian decision afterwards :), so turn back.
Loose Stamps, blocks and sheets in the stamp catalogue.
The rest (including the series) in a philatelic catalogue

I have argued before that it is mainly a linguistic problem. Because it seems clear to me that the orchid seals mentioned by Rein belong together. The stamps can and will be used separately. It seems clear to everyone that these stamps belong together in CW (and any other random catalog). One person calls this a series, the other does not. Rein calls it a block and does not think it is a series. But that they belong together remains a fact. They are clearly issued jointly. That is why I have previously argued that we should get rid of the name series and have proposed set (but another name is also possible). Everyone can then decide for themselves which sets they want to merge into a series.
@Sinbad
@Sinbad
If you throw out the remaining fringe (sheets), then I support your proposal. Then we place all variants of a seal (watermark, paper type, perforation, self-adhesive, (partly) imperforate) in a separate layer that you can open by clicking on the basic type (I will not mention the word basic seal), then we have a nice, clear catalog

AZ60, leave the entire sets and series story for what it is, let everyone do their own thing, sing their own song, just the loose stamps in the catalogue, those are facts, not open to any explanation or interpretation, away posturing and hum, not every stamp 2 x in the catalog 1 x loose and 1x in a set, they don't do that with the rest of the catawiki anyway, it would be a bloody mess (see stamps :) )
You throw the series or sets in the filatelic catalog with the other knick-knacks, that will be a mess anyway, but if you are looking for a stamp you know where to find it in the stamp catalog.
I mean Tintin in America, Tintin on the Moon and Tintin in Africa are also a set, but they are only available separately per album in the catalogue, and if you want to make a set of Tintin in America, Tintin on the Moon and Tintin in Africa, do you do and if Johnny thinks that Tintin on the moon does not belong because the moon is not a continent, then that's fine.
Can you imagine if they all started making sets and series with comics and then also including them as a separate and new item in the catalog?, then comics would be just as messy as stamps and they would make them on the forum, I have right and you wrong, just as much arguing as we do, let's make a catalog with only facts (separate stamps) and opinions (this is a series, no, that's the set), don't put it in the catalog, we'll never figure it out anyway , eternal discussions, if new collectors join you can start again, eternal dubleurs, the only workable solution in the long term is to abolish series and sets that are open to discussion, if you don't do that, we will still be here in 5 years, new collector on catawiki, here we go again ect ect.
It's a choice: KISS or be difficult
@Sinbad,
@Sinbad,
The comment about sets here was meant to sharpen the discussion, because everyone is ignoring each other. Furthermore, your comparison with the comics is limping, but I don't want to talk about that either. We start from your idea and I can agree with that in principle. But there are practical difficulties. Because in your way the stamps come together again criss-cross and searching for stamps remains difficult. As a solution you gave the issue date, but that knowledge is reserved for few. Most will just enter the stamp somewhere. and when the administrators get to it after two years, a mess has arisen. I think you should have a solution to this problem before you get started like this.
