Discophone Singles

Discophone was a Dutch record label from the department store chain Vroom & amp; Dreesmann . It was mainly active in the 1960s. Between 1961 and 1966, countless singles with covers of hits released. These records contain two hit songs for about half the price of a regular single.

Discophone was recorded mainly by the record label Embassy of the British department store Woolworth (initially part of Oriole Records, later owned by CBS ). Embassy artists included Mike Redway, Ray Pilgrim and The Typhoons, as well as the British Top Six (part of Pye Records). For the (anonymous) Top Six recordings, fictional names such as The Bottles, The Black Pirates and The Waves were used. In some cases recordings of Dutch groups were released, such as The Sound Magics (Arnhem) with a.o. Foot Tapper (The Shadows), and Pee White & amp; The Magic Strangers (The Hague) who covered the song (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction (The Rolling Stones). The German covers mainly come from the record label Baccarola (part of Ariola Records).

Discophone was preceded in 1960 by the record label Fellowfoon with the registration numbers FF 101 - FF 139. In By 1961, the series was continued with 22 singles under the record label Discophone FF 140 - FF 162 (1963). The international (and some national) covers are from 1961 to 1965 on the 84 singles with the registration numbers FF 3501 - FF 3584. From 1961 to 1965, the Dutch contributions are mainly on the 35 singles with the registration numbers FF 2501 - FF 2535. The German covers are from 1961 to 1965 on the 42 singles with the registration numbers FF 5001 - FF 5042. So in total - after searching on the internet - it should be approximately: 22 + 84 + 35 + 42 = 183 singles.

Discophone lost the interest of the buying public for these cheap cover songs in the mid-1960s… because of the rising standard of living more and more people could afford the original hits.

Out of pure nostalgia, my first wish is to compile a complete list of all published Discophone singles. I have already made a start, but the list is not complete. My second wish is to also use the sound. MP3s to collect.

We now have 92 in the catalog . Any help is welcome to supplement.

Unfortunately they only arrived 26 . Plus four of Fellowphone .

After months of searching the internet I came up with the following list of Fellowfoon (the predecessor of Discofoon). A must for collectors! However, the gaps still need to be filled or. be corrected!

Het is niet mijn lijst, maar een lijst in het blad Warm Sounds. Dit is een serie tijdschriften over Nederlandse singles en ep's uit de sixties, georganiseerd naar platenlabels. It's not my list, but a list in Warm Sounds magazine. This is a series of magazines about Dutch singles and EPs from the sixties, organized by record labels. In the short time that this item has been opened, almost 100 people have read this. I think there are probably more of them who are interested in a complete list of the label Fellowfoon / Discofoon. And certainly the collectors!

The links above do not help me to verify my list. If that song Warm Sounds 17 contains the necessary information to eventually arrive at an unambiguous list, that would be very welcome. On the internet I cannot find any offered song 17 of Warm Sounds.

Maybe someone can come up with a solution.

This count has no value here. For example, I always view the forum via "Recent posts", so I see all posts. But seeing and actually reading are different things, especially when it comes to things that don't mean anything to me.

A count on the forum only makes sense if you had to click on a post to actually read it.

I would like to continue with my two collection wishes: a complete list of V & amp; D (Fellowphone) Discophone singles + the sound that goes with it.

V & amp; D has my life at the time (I'm almost seventy) enriched with his / her singles. During my training time in Deventer, I always listened to the affordable singles at noon (for less than a Euro). I have now found 40 singles at record fairs. Responses from sellers are not always of recognition / recall. That is why it is all the more incentive for me to record this piece of Dutch heritage (although the recordings come from almost everywhere). Especially now that V & amp; D has passed away. Note: The Woolworth department store chain has recorded Embassy Records up to 1962 on CD. There are 3 more years to follow (the most important years with the Mersey Beat). For V & amp; D singles that means a third can be outdated.

How I would have liked to know Mr. Michel Tersteegen, who sadly passed away on July 4, 2011 at a much too early age (50 years old). What a wealth of information he has collected in his magazine "Warm Sounds". What a tremendous amount of work he has done. This could have resulted in a great collaboration. What a pity that his magazine has not been re-bundled.

For those not yet interested: The recording "I Wanna Be Your Man" by The Bottles (The Beat Kings) is better than The Beatles of The Rolling Stones!

What a wealth of information he has collected in his magazine "Warm Sounds". What a tremendous amount of work he has done. This could have resulted in a great collaboration. What a pity that his magazine has not been re-bundled.

Indeed died way too early. He was the owner of the Da Capo record store in Utrecht on the Oude Gracht, where I regularly visited. His entire collection has been sold to a Swedish dealer who has exhibited it at the collector's fair the past few times.

His family wanted to bundle his 17 episodes of Warm Sounds into two books. That was announced at the fair in 2014, but I haven't heard from it since then. So whether it will continue?

Record club Utrecht has also released 3 parts about Dutch singles. They also seem to have used Warm Sounds for that. See

As a member of the Record Club Utrecht I would also like to give some information.

Just like all members of the Record Club Utrecht, our member Rob Kopp was well acquainted with Michel. After Michel's death, Rob offered to release the Warm Sounds issues in a book. Rob has gained experience with his 3 beautiful "Record Book" publications, containing information and covers of Nederbeat publications in the 60s.

Monday next we will meet again and I will inquire with Rob if there are any progress is being made in the Warm Sounds compilations.
