I have under number

7367783

a page imported from Spirou's Almanac 1944, where there is an advertisement for a Spirou figurine. Does anyone know that, can it be found on the internet or in a comic book museum?

Is a well-known and sought-after statue.

Rarely offered and usually the price is much too high for the average collector.

Thank you Arco and Jozef. I am curious how the statue looks in reality in color. In any case, it makes no sense to drive to the Ommeganckstraat .............., although a nice area of Antwerp.

Sorry, but I don't believe the 1942 Spirou statue was made by Jije ...

Well, it was Jijé who probably drew Spirou at that time, but he seems to have little to do with the design of the statue or the production.

It is therefore only the information that a seller had added.

In 'La véritable histoire de Spirou' by Christelle and Bertrand Pissavy-Yvernault this image is also mentioned and it is stated that the image was made by Jijé. In the same book, a puppet doll from Spirou / Spirou is also attributed to Jijé. A version of this statue is used in an advertisement for the "continuation of the adventures of the Spirou du théâtre Le Farfadet journal. This advertisement is from 1942/1943.

The Spirou figurine in the book Van Christelle and Bertrand Pissavy-Yvernault (on page 12) is clearly different from the figurine from the Catawiki auction ...

In the book the statue in that photo is called: 'modelage original de la statuette de Spirou'.

In that photo it looks like a kind of preliminary design in rough, unfinished form.

Addition: on page 175 of the book is the final result of the statue.

Photo from the Philippe Mouvet collection.

Clearly different from the figurine from the Catawiki auction.

Something happened there with the head and the coloring of the face. And the dilation of the eyes is also a mess.

First announcement of the figurine in weekly magazine nr 198 (November 12, 1942). With the text:

"Innumerable enthusiastic Spirou boys and girls have already asked for a portrait of their hero. With the generosity that is Spirou's own, he offers them even more. From next week a beautiful Spirou figurine will be available, designed by our loyal employee Jijé, the draftsman of Jan Kordaat and Don Bosco . The figurine is neatly executed in red earth, is 20 cm high and costs only 25 francs. All Spirou rascals and loyal readers of our magazine will want to own this lasting memory of their childhood hero. for the living room, the kitchen, the boy's or girl's room."

I mainly knew it from the back cover of the youth album .

The link of metal figures looked again, at the auction at least it said that the head was glued, but as I see it now, that head is quite updated or cleverly copied. As TonKonincks remarked. Anyway, I did not buy the GZD.

This seems to me to be the real one with that roguish Smile from Spirou. In any case, I would like to thank the collectors for their contribution, very refreshing and again some old Spirou info that I didn't know existed.

In the Jijé's integral shows an image of the original design by the master himself.

The statue has become a bit tighter and with less detail than the original.

For enthusiasts, there is now such a statue for sale in the auction of CW.

So if you can still spare 400 - 500 euros somewhere ...
