Je kunt het boek op basis van Ottens misschien wel dateren op 1951, maar hoe waarschijnlijk is dat als het album zelf een latere datum vermeldt. De Franse eerste druk is volgens bedetheque.com uit januari 1952 (net als het voorgaande deel). Ligt het niet meer voor de hand dat bij de afwerking van een deel van de oplage (eind 1951) een restant oude achterkanten is gebruikt en dat het boek pas het jaar daarna in de winkels lag?
You may be able to date the book based on Ottens to 1951, but how likely is that if the album itself mentions a later date. The French first edition is according to bedetheque.com from January 1952 (just like the previous part). Is it no longer obvious that a remnant of old back covers was used in the finishing of part of the edition (late 1951) and that the book was not in the shops until the following year?
Het is altijd lastig om zoiets van scans te beoordelen (vooral als niet alle randen erop staan), maar die rug ziet er toch wel erg gaaf uit vergeleken met de versleten voor- en achterkant. Van de linkerzijde van de voorkant lijkt ook een klein stukje te zijn afgesneden (vergelijk met deze) en de plakbandjes lopen niet meer over de rug door. Die stukjes tape (die suggereren dat de rug ooit doorgesleten was) zijn dan weer wel een overtuigende indicatie dat deze voor- en achterkant van oudsher bij elkaar horen.
It's always difficult to judge something like this from scans (especially if not all edges are on it), but that spine does look very cool compared to the worn front and back. A small piece seems to have been cut off from the left side of the front (compare with this one) and the adhesive tapes no longer run across the back. Those pieces of tape (which suggest that the spine was once worn through) are a convincing indication that these front and back have traditionally belonged together.

@Boekenmagazijn. Je hebt gelijk. Er werd destijds bij de drukkerijen niet zo gekeken werd naar de uitgave en vaak ook gegrepen naar overgebleven omslagen.
ik denk ook dat een datering 1952 beter op zijn plaats is, maar ik heb wel het idee dat het een eerste druk is. Peter Ottens heeft de Jo, Suus en Jokko's nooit beschreven.

@Bookstore You're right. At the time, the printing companies did not look that much at the edition and often also used leftover covers.
I also think that a 1952 date is more appropriate, but I do have the feeling that it is a first edition. Peter Ottens has never described the Jo, Suus and Jokko's.
