Kdamme and I had an interesting discussion about a single from The Cure (item 845063 )

We both suspect that I had merged that single with another copy. The difference was very difficult to see (2 small release numbers changed places and there was no scan of the label at the time). Since it was over a year and a half ago, I couldn't remember. The history does not show whether an item is the result of a merge.

Hence our question to René / Marco: is it possible to indicate in the history which 2 items have been merged? And perhaps also important: can you undo a merge?

Kdamme has now solved it by adjusting the first item and a second variant (item 2092437 ).

In any case, it is difficult to add missing pictures if there are already collectors hanging on the item. Do they have the same version or not? see 132671 . This one is not from 1969, given the label, but from what year? I entered it at the time ..., can I change it now?

I agree with you, but here is the footnote that the best scan (although difficult to see if you don't know what to look for) was different from the original scan, there were two release numbers reversed on the back cover.

I can only applaud the merging of items where an identifying scan and other identifying descriptions (country of issue, release number, etc.) are missing.

I really don't blame the reviewer for not seeing the difference, I might have overlooked it myself. And with this type of vinyl everything is also quickly resolved by creating a new item.
But there comes the point of Jilles: If there are several collectors (and the invisible ones are then anyway overlooked), this can cause problems (with 1 or 2 other collectors it may pay to solve this via e-mail, and in case of deviations to agree who will add an extra item, but this will not work for 10 collectors).

If at a "high" level, so at least Super Administrators, but maybe even Catawiki team the merge could be undone and the history would appear "merged with", incorrect merges could be more easily resolved in my opinion.

And ... It appears once again that Dick deserves (even) more support with his plea for 3 scans.

I fully agree with that: if there are differences, do not merge regardless of quality scans, I just wanted to say that it is sometimes difficult to see.

If the original importer only gives a front and someone comes later who gives the same front with good scans that define everything well, why not?

I know from experience that FransS always looks very critically there, so presumably this was not noticed due to a lack of good scans.

It is no problem at all that there are hidden owners of an item. Only two things are at play: 2 items are the same (and then merge) or there is a difference in both items (then leave both).

It is a problem when collectors start replenishing. For example, a label scan is added with a different release number as on the cover. Usually I park such an item and mail the collector to have a good look at his copy. But in many cases the scans are so bad that I cannot compare anything.

Judging whether two items are identical is very difficult if there are no or bad scans. I always compare the entered text and I compare the information on the scans. The scam method :-) In principle, I prefer to use the scans when determining the original. Sometimes I also choose the item with less text information if the scans are better. I will copy that text from the item to be deleted.

To get back to the original problem of Kdamme and me: So now it is not possible to see at all whether this item has ever been merged with another. In fact, I suspect it has not been merged, because the original importer (Kdamme) is still listed as an importer. I am assuming that if I merge 2 items the importer of the original will remain .... A nice puzzle for René and Marco :-)
