I found three brown (or red) 78 rpm records of classical music.

However, they are not labeled, only 1-6 M written on them

Anyone an idea what this is?

If you enter the records in the catalog and refer to the numbers, we can also see them and give a better assessment.

By the way, how do you know that it is classical music? Did you turn them? If so, is it a large orchestra or a smaller ensemble?

Without having seen them, I think of proof presses. This deviating brown-red color may be caused by a material other than shellac.

If the music is from a larger orchestra, it seems less likely to be private recordings, although of course it may have been recorded from the radio.

Given the code used, it seems more likely that these are plates for professional use. As mentioned, test presses or gramophone records for use on the radio. Presumably they are made of acetate.

The material is heavy like shellac but translucent.

I agree with Vertigo. They are most likely acetates. So, trial presses.

And the key question: is this something that enthusiasts are looking for?

@ErikRobyn: That largely depends on the artist. In this case it is an unknown orchestra and it is also classical music. The number of enthusiasts will be limited, if they exist.

They are Gevaphone records. So private recordings, hence the lack of a label. Probably lacquer plates or C.L.F. plates. I found a separate label with the brand Gevaert and Gevaphone on it.

Good that you found that label. I hadn't heard of the Gevaphone records yet. It turns out to be a Belgian label for acetates, which were mainly used for spoken letters (mostly for family overseas). They were mainly active in the late 1940s.

Such records are very curious, but, as far as I know, not very sought after.

Not my thing, but there are also the Simplex and Simplat brands that release such things.
