Hoi,
bij het graven van mijn vijver vinden mijn kids plots een oude bronzen munt.
Op de voorkant staat 'IN EO PATRIAE SPES', alsook 'a borrel 1894'
Op de achterkant staat 'H*DUBOIS'
Op de zijkant staat 'BRONZE'
Via google search kwam ik terecht op ebay waar eenzelfde item werd aangeboden, maar ik vind er nergens informatie over (behalve dat het een franse munt is), en net dat vind ik spannend. Ook op sites over oude munten is ze niet geregistreerd.
Kan iemand mij aan de hand van deze beschrijving misschien helpen?
Ik wil vooral weten hoeveel de waarde van de munt in 1894 was, en of het wel of niet een gebruikt betaalmiddel van toen was. Alle extra informatie is welkom, dan kan ik mijn kids weer wat spannende weetjes meegeven!
Hoe ze in de belgische kempen onder de grond is verzeild geraakt, zal niemand me helaas kunnen meedelen. :)

When digging my pond, my kids suddenly find an old bronze coin.
On the front it says 'IN EO PATRIAE SPES', as well as 'a borrel 1894'
It says 'H * DUBOIS'
on the backOn the side it says 'BRONZE'
Via google search I ended up on ebay where the same item was offered, but I don't find any information about it (except that it is a French currency), and that is exactly what I find exciting. It is also not registered on sites about old coins.
Can someone help me with this description?
I especially want to know how much the coin was in 1894, and whether or not it was a currency used back then. All extra information is welcome, so I can give my kids some exciting facts!
Unfortunately, no one will be able to tell me how she ended up underground in the Belgian Kempen. :)

"In Eo Patriae Spes" is Latijn voor "Voor de hoop van het land" (volgens online vertaalmachines).
Het Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum (in het bezit van een zilveren exemplaar) classificeert het als een penning ter herdenking van het Beleg van Parijs (1870-1871).
