Hi,

When digging my pond, my kids suddenly find an old bronze coin.

On the front it says 'IN EO PATRIAE SPES', as well as 'a borrel 1894'

It says 'H * DUBOIS'

on the back

On the side it says 'BRONZE'

Via google search I ended up on ebay where the same item was offered, but I don't find any information about it (except that it is a French currency), and that is exactly what I find exciting. It is also not registered on sites about old coins.

Can someone help me with this description?

I especially want to know how much the coin was in 1894, and whether or not it was a currency used back then. All extra information is welcome, so I can give my kids some exciting facts!

Unfortunately, no one will be able to tell me how she ended up underground in the Belgian Kempen. :)

this is the ebay link, as long as it stays online

De Munt is an Occasional Madaillje / token designed by A. Borrel; to thank someone.

Given to Mr. H * DUBOIS on the occasion of something I don't know

The best with it

H. Dubois is the designer of the wreath on the back. See 5513743 .

An inscription could be added in the middle, see https://www.ebay.fr/itm/372585081579

"In Eo Patriae Spes" is Latin for "For the hope of the land" (according to online translation engines).

The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum (in possession of a silver copy) classifies it as a medal commemorating the Siege of Paris (1870-1871).
