I am looking for the very first Dutch-language comic album, so not a newspaper strip (may of course be pre-published), but a real album, with a speech bubble.

I am also looking for the first Dutch compilation album of comic weekly magazines.

Someone who can help me?

To clarify my question:

Based on the (ahum) completeness of the catalog, between this selection should be the very first Dutch comic strip (with speech balloon).

I made a selection until 1940 because I I am sure that Jef Dolfke and Rob van Dupuis is with a speech balloon. But is that the first? I have not looked at the previous albums. Hence my question.

Same for the comic weekly magazines. Here the first Dutch-language collection of comic weekly magazines (with speech balloon) must be listed somewhere. But here I already see that the selection is incorrect because, for example, the pre-war bundles of Bravo are not listed.

So any help is welcome to make a correct selection in the catalog or to provide information about the content (text balloon or not) of the albums.

Thank you in advance,

JK.

http://www.schooltv.nl/eigenwijzer/2157317/ckv/item/195329/beeldverhalen/

This is an "angry letter with drawings, where the text was written in speech bubbles "from 1493

Also available here: http://www.meursam.nl/eerste_ballonstrip%20en%20de%20graaf%20van%20Meurs.htm

But think outside of this curiosity I think Sjors and Sjimmie were one of the first.

The letter is of course not an album.

So you know that this Sjors and Sjimmie from 1936 has speech bubbles?

Thanks for the info. The nationality of the artist is of less importance to me.

So for the time being (with the information we have) the first Dutch-language album that has been released is Sjors en Sjimmie from 1936.

No, but - probably - it is true text balloons are used instead of subtitle.

I managed to find them, but I couldn't get them together with all Dutch-language collections of dot magazines. That's why I didn't trust the completeness of that search result.

Quite "funny" such a collection of Dutch-language comics.

I think the comics from the 19th century are just books, because if you omit the text, I don't think the story is more to follow (according to the rule of thumb from the handbook for the definition of a comic).

I also found an instance that should really just be rejected due to its incorrect input. I only made it into the French language for a while, because it was about a French edition, which I think should be just a book (with illustrations of Mickey Mouse of course).

My feeling says that we get somewhere during an adventure of Mr. Prikkebeen. It has been around for a long time and I think also in comic form. I think I still have a book somewhere about the history of the comic. I can't reach it now, but will have a look at what they say about it during the weekend. But that book was obviously not written in a digital age, so I think we can get a lot further this way.

@ JozefK : Are you writing a book about comics?

Are you writing a book about comics?

No, not a book, not even an article.

Just looking for the origin and the emergence of what is my hobby.

Actually strange that no one has asked that question before (about the first comic).

As I said before, there are also books about the history of the comic strip, so there must be something in that too.

So you are really not the first to ask this question, but you are the first on CataWiki. And the forum is a great reference for users and collectors. One can constantly learn something about various areas of collecting (only in the (Stamp)stamp section you can sometimes get lost ;) ).

Is it an idea to set up a CataWiki college?
