I think it would be useful if there is a button “report double”
where after you also have to specify an item that you suspect is duplicate.
Perhaps it is so far to automate (if you want to at all) that if e.g. 4 people indicate that it is a duplicate that it will then be placed in a “quarantine” folder, not visible to a user, but still for an admin to make the final judgment.
If there are less than 4 users who register a duplicate, it can be placed in a “suspicious duplicates” folder, so an admin can decide whether this is a duplicate or not.
Perhaps it is even possible to have a crossreference done in the DB, on the fields that are filled in to see why the items match. Run this automatically every night and you can probably filter out a few anyway.
Oops, I'll skip: D

There is already an agreement about reporting duplicates.
But it might be useful to repeat it here.
Anyone who detects a duplicate item changes the title of the item in question to "Duplication of xxxxxx", with the number of the item that must remain in place of the x's. (For the item that must remain, always choose the most complete / beautiful entered item.)
Administrators regularly search for the word doublure, check whether it is correct and merge the duplicates in terms of collectors, searchers and shops.
Aah ok, clear, thank you for the quick explanation Arco! :)

Arco
Arco

That is a difficult one, I have some problems with it.
Suppose you have someone who fills in everything nicely, but with scans that could be better.
1 year later someone comes to re-enter it (he actually made a mistake by not completing the original), but with better scans. So you are going to replace the first one?
I'm asking because I have a few too.
As far as I am concerned, the item with the best scans always has priority.
You can transfer the info yourself before you merge 2 items.

No, then you just fill in the data of the item with better scans first with the information from the old item, and call the old item the duplicate ...?

Yes, but then you do dishonor to the original submitter. I don't think they're going to like that item being in someone else's name.
I may be a bit too soft, but still.

In the beginning I thought so too, but that was not sustainable.
And ultimately it is about the quality of the catalog as a whole and not about the individual contributions. There is simply no better way right now. The most important thing is that doubles always disappear as quickly as possible, that is paramount.

Yes, but then you are dishonoring the original submitter anyway.
If the first importer hasn't bothered to add proper scans, then he owes it to himself, right ?!

quote If the first entrant hasn't bothered to include proper scans, he owes it to himself, right ?!
"Not Fair vs Fair" is different from "Good vs Better". I'm a klutz with a camera. In the five photos I take, an average of one is usable, but I do my best.
I am convinced that someone with a Nikon of 2000 Euro can take much better photos than I or you can ...
… Unless of course you have a 2000 Euro Nikon (or whatever) ;-)
Anyway, I understand the problem. It depends on how much review work you have to do, and being with the comics, books, etc. shouldn't be fun.
PS Perhaps the "merge" will keep the original importer (regardless of what is considered to be duplication), if at least he did it a bit nicely (to be judged by the administrator). Finally, the principle is still that if you have a better image that you replace it with the original.

I myself am in favor of always maintaining the first entered item, supplementing it with what is 'better' about the new item (maybe the pictures) and then removing the new item.
The reason is that you should always discourage duplication and I don't think you do that when you 'reward' the offender by removing the first entry. You should never suggest that as long as I use nice pictures I don't have to check whether the item is already there because the administrators will do that for me and mine will still be there anyway
In addition, there will generally be more users hanging on to the original item. And whether you need to move pictures or users is probably lead to old iron.

Just choose the best with the right images and complete them. It is not possible to supplement the lesser with pictures of the other without the Cata brand disappearing. This means that the Catawiki brand is visible in a possible book publication and the logo disappears with original photos.
When merging, the collectors automatically switch to the other item. That's no trouble.
It is not about rewarding the one, but about making the catalog as complete as possible. In addition, the person who removes the duplication can always make the other choice.
It's a fact that duplicates are made, but I don't think it's done on purpose. The number of duplicates that are made is too small for this and a number of them are already removed during the first review.
eg make a choice between 1277393 and 1277801
both entered on August 5, but the one a little earlier.
Only the other with nicer pictures.
It's a choice…

I think the first has better images. More complete and with fewer stains.
By the way, both importers have not added the scans to their own sales copy. There must be a button to be able to do that automatically.

Completer always takes precedence over quality, except in extreme cases.

Indeed an add button of your own copy would be an improvement.
Suppose in the case of a lesser scan that is replaced in the catalog by a sharper copy than is your own copy at least filled and that is only profit.

But…
Is the principle that if the original has been approved and the duplication (with better image) not yet, that you reject the second?
If they are both approved it is of course a different matter.
And yes, that button with automatic add to own collection should be allowed anyway. This way you make life easier for importers who also collect.

Yes, as soon as a duplicate is entered and found, it is in principle immediately rejected and you are requested to make additions to the existing item. Usually that goes well.

OK, klaar en duidelijk. Bedankt !
met 1 !
;-)
OK, clear and clear. Thanks!
with 1!
;-)
Unless it's been duplicated in it for a while, of course.
If there are several collectors who have the item in their collection, merging is the best solution.

Arwin, I understand that of course. Technical issues are still not resolved so merge nix at Video Games.
Arwin, I understand that of course
Okay.
I expected you to understand that, but I thought, I'll say it just in case.
Technical issues are still not resolved so don't merge at Video Games.
Well, that will take a long time by now.
You have already made nice pictures for the homepage, I see.
That's a big improvement with the way it was.
