Earlier this year, a messaging system was introduced for auctions that differs greatly from the system that we have known here for many years. They are a kind of chat boxes that hang from lots that are being discussed. Many users who are also active in auctions have converted to that chat system at that time.

Evaluation showed that the chat system is not functioning properly for the Collectors platform. Not for administrators (it was quickly rolled back for most of them), but not for other users either. When they received messages from administrators, they often received less information than before, which caused communication problems.

That is why it was recently decided to restore the Collector Platform's messaging system to its former glory. As a result, users who are also active at auctions will have two active message boxes:

1. Chat box about lots, accessible via the dropdown menu at the top right. (The Collector Platform messages will also remain temporarily in between.)

2. Message system for the Collectors Platform, accessible via the Catalog profile at the top left, diagonally below the Catawiki logo.

This change will take effect later this afternoon.

edit: The change is now live. Advice is to only use the chat system in the dropdown box at the top right for communication about lots.

It takes some getting used to receiving the messages in 2 places, but that will work.

2 comments about the chat box lots:

-the messages that come in also contain non-auction related topics, so I don't know if that's okay

- because of this change I received 11 "new" messages

Eventually (when we have finished physically unraveling the database) that chat box will only contain any discussions about lots. You will therefore only need that chat box to a limited extent, I suspect. The default location is the Catalog profile. Don't worry about numbers in brackets until we are done.

The old messaging system is no good either… I have never come across a system that will eventually keep deleted messages.

If I throw something away, that is a choice. It shouldn't be the case that an overzealous developer then believes it should be kept anyway.

Questions about the LD messaging system:

Are there persons for LD who a) are authorized to and b) have a "key" to view the messaging system? If so c) does that ever happen? d) if so with notification to and / or consent from members ??

I know that marketplace employees certainly have permission to see the messages, partly to be able to intercept abuse / phishing.
