I noticed that the CD-i http://www.catawiki.nl/catalogus/dvd-video-blu-ray/dragers-media/1221609-cdi and Video CD http://www.catawiki.nl/catalogus/ dvd-video-blu-ray/carriers-media/397885-vcd-video-cd sections on catawiki are a complete mess. A big part of the problem is Catawiki itself. There are 3 different video formats:

1. Video CD (aka "Compact Disc Digital Video" aka "VCD") = white book standard - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_CD

2. Philips CD-i (aka "Compact Disc Interactive") = green book standard - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philips_CD-i . Only a limited number of these discs exist as Philips soon started using the Video CD standard for movies. However, many of those Video CDs do come in a CD-i case

3. CD Video = an analog video format like Laserdisc - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CD_Video

For some reason the "Video CD" section on Catawiki has the "CD Video" logo with the words CD and VIDEO reversed. So even an effort was made by Catawiki to create confusion :)

So it would be useful if:

a. a CD Video section is created with the correct logo

b. the logo in the Video CD section is replaced by the correct logo, which is "Compact Disc Digital Video"

c. all releases are moved to the correct section. For CD-i there are also a lot of interactive titles that have to go to the video games section and vice versa (from video games to movies).

interactive titles between those that should go to the video games section and vice versa (from video games to movies).

That will be alright. They can go to http://www.catawiki.nl/catalogus/overig/voorwerpen/1241445-cdi since they are not games.

Most CDI games in CW are already under games. And there you also have titles that can go to other.

Indeed, I hadn't discovered that section yet...

By the way, I see that you have also entered some VCDs in the CDi section. The only reliable way to find out the format is through a program like ISOBuster. Some CD-i titles were later re-released as VCD while still displaying "Digital Video on CD-i" on the cover instead of eg "Video CD". That "CD-i movies" logo at the top right on American discs also means nothing at all

I don't care about the movies, it's more by-catch when buying cdi games. But I understood that only a limited number of CDi films have been released, and that Philips has rapidly switched to VCD.

dear arsenixa, it also happens that there are collectors who do not have the right player (anymore) (but do want it at affordable prices;)). Or just collect the medium in question because it has a nice title or a nice packaging.

I am such a person and I also have laserdiscs, for example, and look for a cheap player for that! ;)

For that reason and because you cannot always read such a disc on your PC, people like me cannot test that program. So you can only rely on the packaging and then you have the administrators who correct that for you. Thank you very much for this.

Thank you also for the explanation.

Too bad the starter makes a message with what a mess, then stays away.

This is a wiki, so you can make changes if you know better.

Coming back to the topic. I just found this, even though it's from 2010.

I believe there are 13 'CD-i DV' titles, aka 'Digital Video on CD-i'. Here are those 13, along with the approximate date of authoring according to the timestamps of the files on disc for those titles I have in hand:

Black Rain (9/93), Coneheads, The Firm (12/93), The Hunt For Red October (9/93), Indecent Proposal, The Naked Gun 2 1/2 (9/93), Patriot Games (9/ 93), Posse, Sliver, Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (9/93), Top Gun (9/93), Wayne's World (2/94) and White Christmas (9/93).

The three US titles released as of June, 1994 that were apparently Video CDs and not CDi-i DV titles were: Addams Family Values, Goldfinger (5/94), Wayne's World 2.
Therefore the switch from CD-i DV to Video CD was made between February and May of 1994, sometime between the authoring of "Wayne's World" and "Goldfinger". (If anyone can supply dates for the titles above I don't have, we might be able to narrow this down further.)

And just this, I am not an administrator for the DVD section.

I am still here and intend to (slowly) submit my vcd and cdi collection. However, I have indicated what needs to be changed first on Catawiki itself, namely create a new section, replace logo and move titles to correct sections

I think this can only be done by an administrator

If you let it depend on a bad image. Well, given the responses you won't be able to enter much.

And how many CD-videos do you have? And are there already on Catawiki?
