At the moment it is possible to search for stamps via numerous entries: country, theme, use type, type, designers, perforation etc.

All praise for this large number of access points. But searching for the entry "catalog number" - very essential for stamps - is missing! How is that possible: a catalog in which you cannot search by number ?

And then it should also be possible to first choose the desired catalog: NVPH, Michel, Yvert, Scott etc.

Hi Kariene,

Right point. We will deal quickly. The idea is indeed to solve it as you sketch. This search option will then appear in the catalog, in the shops and in your collection.

Good thing if this becomes possible. It will increase ease of use and make Catawiki a better competitor to the paper catalog!

Do it quickly? This should have been achieved long ago!

Fortunately, stamp collecting is on the rise again thanks to the internet, more sites are added every day. But if you want to be able to compete, this part will have to be arranged very quickly.

I really understand that you have different priorities, but for the stamps this should be Priority No. 1. After all: better searching = more sales = better for you and better for collectors and sellers!

Dear collectors,

It seems useful to me to also be able to mention the non-standard catalog numbers (as an extra). For example the Lollini for space collectors.

You are absolutely right. But whether that is feasible? It is already possible to enter a large number of different general catalog numbers. And that is quite a lot. Compare it with other sites: you can enter more on Catawiki than elsewhere.

Unfortunately, the search on catalog number (s) is still awaiting, but I understand that this will be addressed as soon as possible. Still, René?

Catalog number searches were done last week, so I expect it to come online soon.

Philatelie-Amsterdam:

.... But searching for the entry "catalog number" - very essential for stamps - is missing! ... And then it should also be possible to first choose the desired catalog: NVPH, Michel, Yvert, Scott, etc.

It is now possible to search by catalog number. You can do this via the Stamp section page. At the top of the page you can enter in which country you want to search and which catalog you want to use. Then enter your number and click search.

As soon as you have clicked on search, the photo gallery will appear with the found stamps. A new filter has also been added: CatNumber. Here you can also directly enter the number you are looking for. In addition, you can do some handy tricks. For example, by entering m: 100, you will immediately search for the stamp with Michel number 100.

You can use the following codes:

  • m - Michel number
  • s - Scott number
  • l - Country specific number (eg NVPH)
  • sg - Stanley Gibbons
  • y - Yvert

The search also works for your collection and for the shops.

Thanks to Kariene for thinking along and testing.

It seems useful to me to also be able to mention the non-standard catalog numbers (as an extra). For example the Lollini for space collectors.

We now have a country specific number. Adding a specific number to this for themes also has further complications. This creates a database for each country, of which a number of that field is always linked to a different catalog. Problems also arise if several themes are listed on one stamp. (Take C.E.P.T. and Aerospace). You would also have to have multiple numbers because internationally for the same themes different catalogs are used. The Lollini may be THE standard work for space travel, for other themes; there is hardly such a thing.

A further problem is that these thematic catalogs often appear very irregularly (or even no longer appear at all. For example the Stanley Gibbonds parts (SG number is already included by the way) and the Domfil catalogs.

Many thematic catalogs also contain references to the Scott or Michel.

The start is there: search by catalog number! This is a first version, there will be some fine-tuning to take place.

Adding them thematically - as Erik also points out - will, I think, become too complicated or even impossible.

Here is a TIP: there is a difference between searching for individual stamps or searching for series.

- For a loose stamp you enter the stamp number: for example 395

- For series, enter the serial number: for example 395 # 407

The search results depend of course on what users themselves have ever added to numbering when entering their stamps / series.

This is a first version, there will be some fine-tuning to take place.

What will change is where a specific catalog number is chosen. This will be moved to the country itself. An additional advantage is that you can immediately see which catalog is selected.

I am totally excited about searching by number. But how are we going to do with blocks, booklets and all 'back of the book' issues: service, port, regional, occupation, etc. etc. Is that possible with a letter code for the number? Then the country codes for the number are in the way again

If you are looking for Airmail 3 of the Netherlands, if you are looking for LP 3 you can, you should know the code for airmail, etc., but it is quite logical. In most catalogs these things have their own letter.

For the Belgian stamps I should note here that between the Michel, Yvert and other catalogs there are sometimes enormous differences in the values for some stamps (usually for the highest value in a series). That is why I use the OCB (Official Catalog Belgium which is updated every year) as a benchmark.

It goes without saying that you will not be at fault for this and that this itself is a problem for you. But the idea of being able to choose which catalog to use for the searches is a great suggestion. After all, the value of the stamp is incidental because the selling price for the potential buyer is important here and in the best case the collective value for your collection (even if the stamp costs only 0.01 euros and you do not have it in your series, this is a loss. in your collection)

grts
