I am curious about the experiences among the members of Catawiki with assessing the value of complete collections. My father left behind a very large collection of stamps and coins. Built up from 1928. I'm not sure where to start… Advice?

Hi Jobu

Does it really depend on whether you want to sell everything at once or separately or just continue with the collection

If you do everything through here you can immediately see the value of each stamp and coin when you enter it in your collection or shop

If you want to sell everything at once you will have to go to a dealer

Perhaps Rene can do more for you

Wish you the best of luck in whatever you do with the collection
Greetings
Rudi

Who determines the value of a stamp? For example saw a stamp in British Guiana with a canceled value of € 1,669,150.00! Did the one who added it give it this value? So how is the value of this stamp determined? … And by the way, it's not listed in the “Most Expensive Items” (Stamps). I am very curious!

Just take a look at history, on the right side of your screen, there you can see who entered what.

Edit:
So if you click on this 1202889

You can see some options on the right side of the screen, including history, you can see who changed what.

I entered this stamp (can be viewed as Fazerco says). This seal is really worth so much. I determined the value after some research on the internet.

This stamp is not listed among the most expensive items because only the value of MNH stamps is considered for this. Because this stamp does not exist in MNH quality, it will not be included in the overview of most expensive items.

OK, thanks for the explanation!
I am bursting with stamps that are nowhere in this CataWiki, so I will have to look further on the Internet.

@ Vlendert, can you help me on my way, where to search on the Internet, just like you found this stamp there?

If you have a lot of stamps that are not yet on Catawiki, it is best to contact ErikBoere (just search between the administrators). He will be happy to help you get these stamps on Catawiki in an easy way.

Prices are not mandatory when you enter stamps on Catawiki, but it is of course nice if they are included. Prices can be found in catalogs such as Michel. If you do not have such a catalog, you can look on the internet for stamps that are for sale and you can determine the price from it, but that is much less good than taking the price from a catalog, I think. But as far as prices are concerned, I wouldn't worry too much, anyone who wants to and who has a catalog can add them later. It is much more important to fill in the other details as accurately and completely as possible.

Besides, in time the prices of the items will be adjusted when copies of them are sold here on Catawiki. At that point, the price you found elsewhere has become about redundant.

These types of extremely rare stamps are occasionally auctioned, and when we see that, we take over the auction price. For example, the Swedish three skilling stamp in yellow was recently auctioned. Prices are generally based partly on the prices for which stamps are offered on Catawiki and partly on trade and list prices. we assume an insurance value, in general you will be able to buy stamps below these prices.

This stamp is not listed among the most expensive items because only the value of MNH stamps is considered for this. Because this stamp does not exist in MNH quality, it will not be included in the overview of most expensive items.

If that is the case then that is of course not correct, because other very rare objects can sometimes appear in lesser or different qualities. So I emailed Marco.

And while we're on the subject: I think 1202901 also exists not MNH, only canceled….

That's right. The problem is that I incorrectly entered the value for MNH. Now it is impossible to delete this value ...
