Lately (years) I am regularly confronted with 2 problems when I want to deviate from self-adhesive stamps:

- or they are actually not soakable from an envelope or card. I am thinking of various Belgian, but also Spanish stamps.

- or - if they can be soaked off - they will stick very much to the gum side even after soaking and drying. Very annoying to store them afterwards eg in an album with strips.

As you may have already experienced, this mainly concerns self-adhesive stamps, where the glue is much more persistent than the good old gum. Unfortunately, almost all new stamps are self-adhesive.

I wanted to hear if you have any tips on this. I suspect there isn't much to do about the first problem. Maybe the second?

Thank you for sharing experiences and suggestions.

idd, benzene, and then powder (talcum powder) or ... rub with flour. Issue that the 'slab' is neutralized.
Vending strips of Spanish origin never deviated. Then you get white products. The printing ink on those things is not water resistant.

Dutch stickers can usually be neatly soaked with soapy water that is not too cold. I suspect that in the Netherlands ordinary gum is first applied, and only then the self-adhesive layer. In addition: older Dutch self-adhesive usually fall off the paper by themselves after a few years.

Italian stickers are the most stubborn to soak off. Usually I cut it neatly and put it in my collection. Have already helped too many 'au savon' trying to deviate.

Thanks in advance, also for the link to the earlier discussion. The flower for problem 2 already works wonders - talc was not readily available. Benzene can be purchased, not really known to me as a product.
