I have a nice piece of paper in my possession but I wonder how I can tell which of the 8 Anna this is. I think this is not the stamp from 1855 because it is printed on "blue" paper so it is the 8 Anna from 1856 or from 1865 with Elephant Watermark.

Who can tell me how to find this?

According to my specialized Stanley Gibbons catalog the 8 Anna 1855/1859 has been used in half, the one from 1865 is not. Given the catallogus value of a letter with a halved 8 Anna, it is in any case wise to have the stamp inspected by an expert (but yes, where can you find it?).

The difference between "blue" and light yellow / white paper can best be determined by comparing with whole stamps. I have tried it once by looking at the stamps under a microscope. You do see some difference in paper structure between "blue glazed" and ÿellowish white paper, but it often remains uncertain. But maybe we will hear that from a paper expert in our midst?

Dick

Given the catallogus value of a letter with a halved 8 Anna, it is always wise to have the stamp inspected by an expert (but yes, where can you find it?).

KNBF (BKD) approve both the Netherlands (including the former colonies and Overseas Territories) and almost all occurring other countries.
