When adding Barbies, I was wondering which country to enter here. Mattel is based in the USA , but the Barbies are made in the Far East…. This will play a role in many more articles by the way. The brand / manufacturer also mentions Barbie, but Mattel is nowhere to be found….

The first Barbies were of course made in the USA.

Then in Japan, Mexico, Taiwan etc

If it says Barbie anywhere on the body or head, the brand is Mattel.

Numbers are important and year. although the year itself is sometimes the same over longer periods.

Important are the abbreviations, which sometimes appear on the doll or are used to define

PT = poytail

BC = Bubble cut

SL = straight legs

BL = Bendable legs

CMF = Coloe magic face

T'NT = Twist "N Turn

Or..Ba = Original Barbiehand

Mex. = Mexico hand

H.s.M. = Hand shiny Mexico hand

Fr.ha. = Franciie hand

Kor.h. = Korea hand

Ho.Ko. = Hong Kong

Jap. = Japan

Taiw. = Taiwan

Matt. = Mattel

Most Barbies can be dated well on the basis of the marks

Thanks for the explanation. The question remains which country to enter. Márklin trains, for example, are often made in Hungary or China. Sometimes the hood comes from China and the engine from Germany. It is not always clear where what is produced .....

Usually the production country is on the back.

It is a very well documented area, there are many Barbie collectors worldwide and there are good catalogs.

We are waiting for a well-introduced collector (star)

I do have a large collection of Barbies, but those are the minis from MacDonald, among others.

I have little interest in the big ones, but indirectly I know something about them.

I have been at pooen and bear fairs every week for over 20 years, so even if you don't collect yourself, you will pick up some of it.

If you need specific information, I can often be helpful.
