What is the difference between these 2 items? Is this a duplication?
It also contains exactly the same Michel number (and other information)
#10196637 | #504529
The first number mentioned has also been recently added (Feb 2024)

Indeed, it seems to me to be a clear case of duplication reinierpower . The last importer did not search properly. The issue name of the first entry is also incorrect, the blocks are separate. Of course, this also makes it more difficult.

Not quite. Bee #10196637 the perforation also runs through the right side, but not on the other.
I don't know if anyone would want both versions for that reason, but the difference is there.
If merged, at least both scans should be shown.

almost identical

A consequence of issue cloaking. There are old style people who blindly want the blocks in another issue, causing a loss of overview. Result = a user does not find the block in the issue and then adds it.
Always ask a super administrator archivist first where you can find a block before adding it? ;)
It is of course better to place the stamps and blocks that belong together in the same issue. Then you get fewer duplications. And as a collector you don't have to ask first (because it is then so simple/powerful that you can also find it).

I think the cause of the cutting (for blocks / sheets) lies partly in a kind of copycat behavior of the DAV0 system (just like LD of Dutch origin) from 'the old days'. In the past, a long time ago, the blocks/sheets were separate in DAVO albums. At the back, or in a separate binder.
Hasn't been done for more than 2 generations.

Or a third issue for the continuous perforation, then it is more in line with the archive vision.

reinierpower DUPLICATES are added regularly. Is there a specific reason why you think there might be a difference?
If not, then the title of Change #504529 to "DOUBLURE of 10196637 ". postmaster will automatically come across this on his cleaning tour and take a look at it.

Thanks for the responses, I now indeed see that the perforation continues at #10196637 and that they are not identical.

I have adjusted the Edition a little, and described the difference in the Perforation in details.
There was another one, namely the toothless block.
Now they are all neatly contained in one Edition.

Although it has now been proven that it is not a duplication, Stamps is the only section on LD where the lowest number always remains and the highest number is removed (a pity). So your text must be reversed.
In all the rest of the entire LD, it is the best song that remains.

Jummeke
It's postmaster that handles the duplicates. He decides what remains and, if necessary, gathers the best pieces together.
Exceptionally, the newest can survive.
In principle, for the sake of transparency and fairness: the eldest remains. That was there first. The newest is often proof that the adder did not search properly, or that it was not really in the right position, so the search was not successful.
Not always, but often.

I still believe that if one user can see it and find it and then deal with it correctly ("DUPLICATE of nnnn"), maybe the other user (who added the duplicate) could find it too. There are no special subscriptions where one person can see more than the other.
However, it is easier and less time-consuming to simply add instead of searching carefully and adjusting (improving and supplementing) an item.

In other words, you cannot earn a badge by adding many duplicates. They just fly out and your counter is corrected.
Using the stamp catalog (and the shop facilities) is not merely adding, but also (daring to) take responsibility for improving the quality of existing items.

Jummeke is right, always get rid of the newest item and keep the oldest item.
Lyonesse Thanks for editing the issue

Just another question, item #4538971 is counted as a series but numbers #889043 and #889035 are not included. While they are in 1 block and they are also counted as stamps (they are not intermediate strips).
What is the reason for this or is this also an error?

In any case, it is also a mistake that the item has been turned over. The first image was a block with continuous perforation and has been replaced by a block without continuous perforation.
